Can a 1 year old eat birthday cake?

This is probably a ridiculous question, but I have been trying to give DS a healthy, balanced diet with no added sugar or salt in it.

He's going to be 1 next month - my baby boy! 1 already - can't believe it. I was wondering whether he'd be able to eat some birthday cake at this stage? I was hoping to make a birthday cake and have a little party for him but suddenly had a thought that birthday cake might not be so good for him.

What do others think?

Yes, by the way, he is my PFB before anyone asks.

yes he can

Yes, that was pretty much my ds's introduction to icing & sweet stuff. (Also pfb )

Nothing wrong with a bit of unrefined sugar now and again imo.

birthday cake won't be good for him but it will be yummy!

flour, eggs, sugar, nothing intrinsically wrong with any of the ingredients.

Will do in that case!

Course he can... Although my ds didn't get any of his first birthday cake! I felt that while he was young enough to not be interested in sugary fatty foods there was no point whatsoever in giving them to him.
