My dd will be 6 soon, think we are going to have a party at home with a few of her friends as money is tight (the last 2 years we have hired a hall and had a bouncy castle and face painter) but i need some ideas of things to play or do with them, maybe something other than normal party games e.g musical statues, pass the parcel etc

Any ideas anyone?

Craft things are pretty good at this age. Baker Ross do things like crowns you can decorate. Also decorating biscuits goes down well.

How many guests and will they be all girls? If it's just a few, how about making fary cakes and decorating them for tea? Or pizzas?

Cooking, craft actvity are all good idea's, depending on numbers. Cooking - if less than 4 you could actually cook and decorate cakes, if more than 4 just stick to decorating and maybe creating toppings for ready made pizza.
Party games could be added to fill time its always best to have these prepared as backup and no matter what their age kids love pass the parcel(do this why cakes are cooking).
Keep the craft ideas simple painting a ready made pot, bird table or something like that.Pick a theme a choose your activites and little party prizes round that.
Treasure hunt.

Cooking is good - decorating their own pizzas and then maybe making rice crispy cakes or something similar

Face painting - we got a good kit with a little instruction booklet. I am the least artistic person in the world but managed to do it

Then do the usual pass the parcel, musical statues etc. CBeebies website has lots of craft/making things to do

There is going to be about 8 girls, love the crowns my dd would love those. i think that craft things combined with a few party games sounds like a good idea. Im sure wilko do mugs you can decorate quite cheap so i might do those as well.

Thanks for the ideas, anymore welcome
