Finally hitting the big 4-0 soon, and am planning an eighties theme night. So far I've got:

All 80's music (too much time being spent on Google video reliving my youth and devising play lists atm)

Dress as you were then - prize for the best

Eighties quiz

Dance competition - Prince Charming, AC/DC etc

Any other ideas very gratefully received

Now, where's that Malibu and orange.....

NoBiggy · 13/01/2009 21:23

You should have those wimpy burgers with the hot dog with slots in curled round the edge.

paolosgirl · 13/01/2009 21:24

Good ideas...thanks

Where would I get a marathon bar though?!

Play your music on a tape.

Leave some Rubik's cubes around the place.

Will you have 80s song lyrics as part of the quiz?

Pin the crucifix on Madonna - or something of that ilk?

You could have lots of "bits" of 80s famous folk, assembled to make some mixed up wholes and they have to identify all of the component parts eg: Adam Ant's eyes, Boy George's lips, Simon le Bon's hair etc.

janeite · 13/01/2009 21:30

Give teams a polaroid or digital camera and they make their own photo-story - with speech bubbles stuck on Jackie mag style.

Give teams a pile of "junk" - binbags, news paper, coloured tape etc and they have to design a new outfit for Madonna, or Jacko or somebody, with one of the team to model the outfit.

make poncy wine bar cocktails - preferably with capri-sun

grab a bunch of posters of films and bands from the eighties for decor

Set up a computer in the corner for asteroids or space invaders competition.

wear leg warmers.

Deely boppers

I remember all of these sleepycat! Cannot believe I'm going to be 40 - how the hell did that happen??

Like the 'bits' idea Jane, and the pin the crucifix

Do you remember taping music from the TV? I'd sit beside it, watching TOTP and pressing the play and record buttons on the tape recorder - easy! None of this burning and ripping nonsense.

I went through a Stevie Nicks phase, a socialist worker phase and a tight jeans/long jumper/back combed hair/red lippy/black eyeliner phase in the eighties - can't decide which look to recreate for the night.

I LOVE the Virgin advert! And yes - I remember the 'white' phase. I had a boyfriend at 16 who turned up to our first date wearing white slip ons, white trousers, white (school!) shirt, white jacket (sleeves rolled up) and red skinny leather tie. Mmmmmm
