Laser quest - any opinions for ds's 6th birthday party?

My son has decided he'd love to go to laser quest with some friends for his 6th birthday party in a couple of months. I (nor he) have ever been to one so I just wondered if any other mumsnetters had any opinions/thoughts on them as a good party option for his age? Many thanks

dd (a small 7 yr old) went to a party there a last term and found the equipment too heavy to use. Also some were scared by the dark and loud sounds. ds has been and enjoyed one but was older (at least 8 iirc).

I would not do this. We went to a 8 year old boy's party there ages ago and most of the kids gave up, a couple did not go in - it was very dark and very loud. The kit is also really really heavy.

If your DS is one of the youngest in his group of friends then go for it. If he is one of the oldest then might not be such a good idea for the reasons mentioned above.

The laser place near me is for 6 and above so if his friends are 5 you might have a problem anyway.

I thought there was a lower age limit, can't remember what it is, but am sure it is older than 6.

DS had his 8th birthday there and two fo the boys found it too scary and one found the equipment too heavy.
I think it would be a bad idea for 6 yr olds.
I think there are height restrictions too?

They almost certainly won't let you.

IME it is for 7s and over only because of the size of the pack they have to wear. I would imagine there would be 5yos at a 6yos party so a no-no.

Also yes it is a bit scary and very dark. More like an option for 8-9 yos here.

When I investigated was told that their would be other parties present and that they would likely be older (possibly teens) this put me off. We have an Ice Station Zero in the local sports centre which is a childrens version and great fun for this age - not sure if this is a one off but you may have similar locally.

I persoally wouldn't be happy for ds 6 to go to one of these.

IMO it's for older children as the equipment is heavy and as it is in thedark i think would be quite frightening for some children.

Ours is 7 +, dd2 is 7 and did it with only us in there and was fine BUT the pack was large on her and would have been a problem playing against other kids

Our local one has a mini arena for the under 7s; not sure what it is like though.
