Have a look on my profile at the birthday cake I've just made for dd. It's the mermaid one at the top.

I'm very, very proud of it. It turned out so much better than I expected .

that is brill - i want one

KatyMac · 20/11/2008 21:49

It's lovely - but I like the ladybird one

Littlefish · 20/11/2008 21:50

Thank's Madrose.

All the scales were added individually!

I'll never make another one as long as I live. I was up until 11.30 last night doing it.

That was her first birthday cake Katymac - I loved it too (and it was a darn sight easier than a mermaid!)

The cat on the ball of wool was her 2nd birthday and the fairy castle was for her third birthday.

That is fantastic littlefish

Candlewax · 20/11/2008 21:55

It is excellent! Well done you! I bet she will be absolutely delighted!

Littlefish · 20/11/2008 21:57

She's having a shop bought cake as well PFNM because the mermaid cake is for her party. The trouble is, the shop cake is a disney princess one so I know which one she's going to prefer

PandaG · 20/11/2008 21:57

southeastastra · 20/11/2008 21:58

They are all absolutely fantastic - that kitten/wool one is just genius.

KatyMac · 20/11/2008 22:00

I've got to make DD's 11th tomorrow - I have little enthusiasm or inspiration

noonki · 20/11/2008 22:01

that is just fabulous

Littlefish · 20/11/2008 22:02

Thanks very much everyone, for your unsolicited kind comments.

Wow! Those scales must have taken ages.

I make birthday cakes for my dcs and various family members and every time I swear I'll never another but I do, again and again and again. (You've got the same book as me, I recognise the ladybird and cat!)

MIL and a couple of friends are trying to persuade me to make a business out of it but I think the stress would actually finish me off.

I'm already stressing about the fact that I have to do ds1's (Power Ranger), ds2's (Kipper) and a joint one for dh and FIL (2 naked ladies draped over a Formula 1 car) within a week just after Christmas. WHY?

stealthsquiggle · 20/11/2008 22:08

It's fab- did you carve the shape or have a shaped tin?

11.30 - you lightweight - I have yet to finish a cake before 2am

Furball · 21/11/2008 06:49

Wow Littlefish - that is brilliant!

What was your inspiration for the kitten and wool cake?

I'll sit by you tonight and we can just talk about cake.

Littlefish · 21/11/2008 06:57

Wow Olihan - I've just looked at your profile. Your cakes are wonderful. You could definitely make some money out of it, but I understand about the stress thing!

Stealthsquiggle - it was a shaped tin. It's the first time I've used one so I was a bit dubious, but it worked really well.

Furball - my favourite thing - sitting and talking about cake

ChairmumMiaow · 21/11/2008 07:36

Littlefish - those are all great cakes.

I'm the one in my family that does the fancy cakes - the kids always love them but they're never quite as polished as yours look!

If she likes princesses for next year have you seen those bell shaped tins with the freaky cut off doll that sticks out the top? I did one of those for my niece's 4th birthday and she absolutely adored it!

See you tonight!

NorbertDentressangle · 21/11/2008 09:44

I'll talk cake with you too!

In fact I'm going to be spending this morning doing DDs birthday cake for her party this weekend so may be tearing my hair out by tonight!

There are some fabulous cakes on peoples profiles -if only I could be arsed knew how to put photos on my profile I'd post some of the cakes I've done.

DD's swimming pool cake from last year was the most adventurous, although not entirely the most successful

stealthsquiggle · 21/11/2008 10:14

and [sulk]

wanna come to Worcester meetup tonight and talk cake. No way can I justify it, though - finances are reeling from doing Christmas shopping. Do you all use the Sugarcraft shop in Worcester for supplies [hopeful]? - I am seeing the possibility of a Worcester cake-making meet up - my credentials on my profile

DorrisMcWhirter · 21/11/2008 13:07

Wow Fishy one! That turned out rather spectacularly then didn't it?! I shall be definitely frequenting the cake shop you suggested!

Furball · 21/11/2008 13:14

Squiggle - crikes your cakes are amazing. The R2d2 cake and jedi costume are fan bloody tastic and would go down a storm in this house. You need to come to a meet-up so we can all indeed talk cake!

I do make my own but they are no way as professional looking as your lot.

This year I did a chocolate butter cream icing top with two real small toy cars who had skidded onto the cake and driven round leaving trails off grated chocolate spelling out wow 7 today.

Last years I was equally proud as I made a race (nascar) track round the top in black icing complete with little chocolate cars.

Slouchy · 21/11/2008 15:54

Wow - you clever thing.
Have fun tonight!

FlirtyThirty · 21/11/2008 16:07

Oh my - that's amazing! well done you!

Would you be able to recommend a cake design book as I'd love to have a go at some of these!
