Party - need to create mood lighting - red light for chinese themed party - how to do it?

Are there any lighting afficionados out there please?

For a Chinese themed party for my 12 yr old I need to create a soft red glow in my lounge so the effect is of red light rather than normal bulbs etc. I am looking at varios options such as rope lighting around the ceiling and led candles ( rather than real ones) but someone mentioned getting an uplighter - all the ones i have seen must be connected with cables and are not really for one off use. I have looked at some party lighting websites and although tehre are some single lights they also appear to need to be plugged into cables etc - i am looking for something which can be plugged into a socket.

Does anyone know whether this is possible and if so what the technical name for it is or how to create such a look otherwise/

Would a normal red light bulb not create that effect?

DH works in theatre lighting so will ask him later for you if you don't get any other responses

Can't you just change your normal bulbs to red ones for the day?

Best not use them permanently though, or people will think you're running a brothel!!

Yes it probaly would although accenting th4e lighting works better than a general red light bulb which does as you say look brothelish. Also we havfe a chandelir type light and i'm not sure you can get red lights for those.
