I have invited around ten children to my DD's second birthday party. Please give me some ideas of games and activities that they could do. I thought of keeping it very simple. Maybe a Pass the Parcel and then songs like Sleeping Bunnies. I have invited everyone for just a couple of hours.

Also please give me ideas for food.I want to do one of those Barbie in a dress cakes which are meant to be simple (Barbie stuck in a domed shape cake looking like a balldress). Would be great to hear if anyone has a recipe for one.

I need serious inspiration!

My DD is two in a couple of weeks - we've got that awful pop jr cd to play and we are planning to have a bit of dancing and musical chairs (toddlers love nothing more than a bit of shoving each other ).

Food - get a madeira slab cake, cut it into squares and ice them, then put little sugar flowers on top - they love individual things at that age, we're doing mini pizzas and chicken and veg kebabs (ie easily handleable food that isn't too splatable).

For a Barbie cake, just cook a simple sponge mix in a Pyrex bowl, then upturn it (that's the skirt) - then you can either wedge Barbie's legs into the cake, or take her legs OFF and just stick her top onto the top.

My friend had a party for her 2yo, where she bought a small terracotta post for each child, then they all painted them (was messy but fun ) and then when they were dry (was quick) she stuck a little herb plant in each one for them to take home. Was cute!
