I need a dress, have been trawling the internet. I love this:
www.brownsfashion.com/product/brownsbride/designer/colette_dinnigan/93319.htm

But it is too big. I am size 6.

Do you think I'll find one in time??? Where?? I'm going to London in a couple of weeks. Can you recommend any shops, so I can make a few appointments? I have phoned around locally & have been told 20wks for a dress as they don't hold my size in stock

All help gratefully received - I am not v organised.

That is beautiful!

Is it worth dropping them an email to see what their sizings are like - an 8 might fit you if they are on the small side.

Lizzzombie · 07/10/2008 14:37

Gorgeous dress. I suggest you call Browns and ask them if they can recommend a seamstress (may possibly have an inhouse one?) who could take it in for you?

Or, stuff it, contact Collette Dinnagan direct and ask her/them if they have a size 6 anywhere.

HTH x

OMG - panic indeed !

Do you want a "wedding' dress or just a "dressy" dress ?

Wedding dresses tend to be small sizes so you could probably get away with an 8. Would you consider ordering from the internet ?

funnypeculiar · 07/10/2008 14:38

Wow, I love that dress
If I was you, I'd talk to a dressmaker who can hurry things through a bit - suspect that any big store willhave stock issues. Lord knows why it takes so long to get hold of wedding dresses, though.

The lady who runs soie meme www.theweddingportfolio.co.uk/ is lovely & makes fairly similar styles...and specifically says she can make things up in 8 weeks. She made my dress & was very very flexible about tailoring things...

funnypeculiar · 07/10/2008 14:40

Actually, looking at her current pictures, soie meme seem to have gone rather less line-based - my dress was fairly similar to your browns one but without the beautiful brown lace bits ...

Thankyou so much for help. Off to do school run. Will look at this properly when calmed down - tonight.

Come and join our wedding thread here if you fancy. I get married in just under 8 weeks as well

Ta, Tilly, will be over to join you later! (I'll be 80 by the time I read all those posts, mind!)

Gosh, what a gorgeous dress: it's lovely. And you are tiny!

I got my wedding dress 2 weeks before my wedding, if that makes you feel any better. All the ladies in the wedding dress shops were horrified when I told them how soon I needed it. Of course, I had to get one off the peg, but with 8 weeks I hope you'll get something you love.

MerlinsBeard · 07/10/2008 16:57

sounds like you are not long after Tilly and i

DON'T PANIC!!! If Tilly can't sort you out no one can [wink

NorthernLurker · 07/10/2008 17:01

I got my dress at less than 6 weeks notice - well actually it was about three days.
The wedding things was on quite a tight timetable and we had very little time. I am also not an easy size to fit - was a 16-18 then. We found one dress in a shop which was lovely but needed just a little alteration. The seamstress who worked with the shop was away for a week or so but when she came back assured us she could fix it. Then there was a delay in getting it back from her and when the shop rang to say it was ready and we went to try it on she had totally buggered it up!! So with about 72 hours to I do I was dressless. We (all this we is my mum and I btw) went back to another shop where we had previously seen another dress and fantastically they still had it. So I went for that one. Compared to me - you've got years of time!!!

If you are coming to London have a wander up Chiltern St (and surrounds) which is like designer wedding dress quarter.
maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&um=1&ie=UTF-8&q=wedding+dress+chiltern+street+london+UK&fb=1&view=text&sa =X&oi=local_group&resnum=1&ct=more-results&cd=1

If they can't alter it themselves in the time frame, just take it to an independent tailor. For the same money or less, you could have one very similar designed and made for you by Nikki J (if she could do the timeframe.) www.greenwichgateway.com/nikkij/but if you are not actually london based that could be more difficult, Beautiful dress BTW.

sandy4 · 07/10/2008 19:25

Thanks ladies!!!!!!! will go to Chiltern St, check out Nikki J & make friends with dressmakers...

Am feeling sick (but in a good way )
