What is a reasonable budget for nursery birthday party presents?

My daughter has just started getting invited to birthday parties from
her friends at nursery. Kids are turning 3/4.
What would you say is a good budget for a gift? Or is a voucher for smyths better so they can pick something themselves and if so how much?
I don’t know any of the children at all or what they are in to.

I always spend about £10 but I might spend it bit more for best friend.

Around £10, usually I try and get something on sale at that age as you can get great bargain!

Maybe I’m a bit stingy but I tend to buy an Orchard Toys game as they’re about £7 or £8 and good quality and my children enjoy playing them.

I wouldn’t do money/vouchers - kids that age have no idea how to spend them.
£10 max and something you think the kid will like. My child went to a party last week and her little pal is off on holiday so we got him a swimsuit!

Money or vouchers are a disappointment for that age. Usually I try to grab something vaguely related to the child’s interests, often going on the party theme and not spend more than £10. For example I got a boy having a spiderman party got an £8.99 Spiderman 4+ lego set.

At that age, I tended to buy stuff when I saw it reduced/on a good offer so then when I needed it, I always had a few options in my "gift" cupboard. Sainsburys/Argos/The Works often do 2 for £10/15 which work out well, or end of season sales in shops like John Lewis can also be good. My presents tended to cost me around £5-7 but if they were full price then they would be around £20.

As they get older, you tend to be invited to fewer birthdays of closer friends so you can spend more if you want/can afford it. And your child will know what their friend wants.

Around £10, small Lego set, pack of hot wheels cars, orchard game, colouring books and new pens, that type of thing

We do £8-12 generally, about the price of a small LEGO set. For a best friend we go up to £20.

I give my 4 year old £5 to spend in a charity shop with a good toy/book section. She has chosen some totally random but brilliant gifts and it is more sustainable. We encourage pre-loved for her birthdays too, and she’s pretty relaxed about taking toys she’s not playing with in too which helps avoid the dreaded toy mountain.
