URGENT- i need your help.. would you be pissed off if you went to a party and...

...were asked to take your shoes off in the house???

we are having a party with a casino and cocktails theme for our house warming. have told everyone to get glammed up but have just realised whilst trying on my shoes that my new heels are going to totally trash our new wooden floors. that means everyone else's heels will too!

i have 3 choices...
-tell people to take shoes off at door
-ask them in advance to wear flats
-fork out for floor covering eg hire dance floors/ lay down cheap off cuts of carpet.

ideas/ advice urgently needed! you cant ask people to get dressed up and then not let them wear their heels, can you???

This has been a BIG debate on here before. Will it really ruin the floors? We have oak floors and heels are fine on them.

And yes, wouldn;t liek gettign glammed up for a party and then having to take my shoes off. It would make nme 4inches shorter for a start.

i once asked a VERY spikey mate not to wear spikeyt shoes

she is fat
and her shoes are spikey and i KNEW it was her last year.
i dont mind normal heels

You just can't ask guests to take their shoes off or wear flats. Go for the cheap offcuts of carpet option.

I know someone who had a floor ruined by a guests heels.

Given the party theme, I think you need to do the cheap carpet option. Sorry...

well, its not actually a new floor- they are old victorian boards- newly sanded and stained. yep. they do mark easily.so they must be pretty soft. just did a little twirl on the floor-lol- in my heels and there is a very obvious mark. and i'm not a big person. what to do???

I still hate my once pristine looking wooden floor!!!

no heels.....EVER......when we have money (when), we will be replacing said floor for different, non soft stuff.

i can see why you don't want the risk

but v difficult for a party, v difficult -- I'm used to taking off shoes to go into houses but not never for a party

I wouldn't be p-ed off with option 1 or 2 BUT I would think what sort of fool chooses a high glamour theme & then wants guests without heels

This happened at my sister's 40th. Her floors have little dents from stilettos on them now. Not the end of the world though. She decided that having a chilled out party was more important.

our brand new oak floors were ruined 1 night from just 1 friend with spikey shoes, you can trace her steps all over bottom floor and upstairs in the bathroom. you can't ask people to take shoes off it will be annoying for them and embarassing for you so definitely cover floors. that's what I reckon.

you could always make teeny tiny carpet bits to stick to guests heels of course......

Instead of covering your whole house in cheap offcuts how about you cut lots of shoe sized offcuts for people to stick on the bottom of their shoes - maybe blue tac or laccy bands would hold them on?

I don't think you can ask people to dress up though and then take their shoes off.

I really hope someone else finds the thread that this topic kicked off on, was very funny and could do with a laugh re-reading it this evening.

house is not massive- thru lounge diner is about 4.5m x 10m so large enough for dance floor at one end.

iknow- the theme does rather require heels...

why don't you buy a few pairs of those heel things from BHS, ask your guests to stick them on their shoes, problem solved

It was about this exact topic, possibly someone asking if they were un-reasonable to ask guests invited to a dinner party to take their shoes off.

funnypec- trouble is, i didnt realise about the floors till after theme was decided- am generally not that precious about shoes in house, except carpeted bedrooms.
