I want to do a lucky dip for a party. What stuff do I use for them to search through to find the presents?

IYKWIM!!

I have the presents but need some sort of 'something' to search through.

Not sticky or gooey obviously. something cheap and cheerful.

Do you mean like shredded/torn paper?

dizzydixies · 04/06/2008 11:16

polystyrene chips?

suzywong · 04/06/2008 11:16

oo oo ooo
I know!
you have to make yourself coffee, turn on radio 4 to your favourite programme and sit on your arse for 15 minutes and rip tiny strips of tabloid newspaper up

I did this for ds1's party instead of fecking lolly bags and it was a tremendous success even if I do say so myself

and use a bloody great big plastic bucket

dizzydixies · 04/06/2008 11:17

ebay?

chopchopbusybusy · 04/06/2008 11:17

Do you have a shredder? If so, sort through the mail pile. I assume everyone has one.

OverMyDeadBody · 04/06/2008 11:18

FrannyandZucchini · 04/06/2008 11:18

dizzydixies · 04/06/2008 11:18

coloured shredded paper?

shredded newspaper/magazines?

suzywong · 04/06/2008 11:18

i mean foot long ftrips

spicemonster · 04/06/2008 11:19

If you don't have a shredder, wood pellet cat litter would work fine. Goes in teh compost after

Smittals · 04/06/2008 11:45

What about popcorn? Sounds bizarre but I've seen that corn packing material that's used instead of polystyrene... And you can make loads of popcorn really quickly. You could even dye a few batches differnent colours with food colouring, to mix in for a multicolored effect. I should really get out more...

Wow! Brilliant ideas.

My friend has a shredder and she said I can have what is in there and if I want to go over and shred newspaper then I am very welcome to!

thanks everyone.

I did this - and got real sawdust (from a company beside where I work). I wrapped up little pressies, in different colours as I had generic boys/girls toys.
We did it instead of party bags, which i detest - it was my compromise. We had about 25 at the party.

If you work in an office enviroment or anywhere that has a lot of parcels/packages come in ask the post room people for some of the poly chips that they pack stuff in to keep it safe.

Good luck
