LO will be 1 in a couple of months (😭💔) and struggling to decide what to do to celebrate. I didn’t have a gender reveal or baby shower or anything as I had a really difficult pregnancy, so part of me feels like I want to hire a function room and have a big celebration with all of our family and friends. However, I know this will end up being for our benefit rather than his. Other part of me thinks just keep it intimate at our house with close family and friends and whoever wants to pop in can. Curious to know what others have done and how it went, was it a waste, etc? TIA? X

Went out for roast dinner (her fav) with one set of grandparents and auntie then home for cake and presents. Then the following day cake and presents with the other sent.

Just had relations popping in if they wanted to during the day. I didn't see the need for friends coming.

Took him to the local leisure pool as that was his favourite thing to do, then home for cake

We had a lunch with grandparents and immediate family for first one. For my second child I knew more kids so we had a little party with six little guests. Her big brother (about to turn 3) had a couple friends round too.

Anything you do at this stage is for your benefit, not theirs. They’d be happy going to the park or just tottering around somewhere. That’s not a bad thing, sieving your first year of parenting is a big thing and you can celebrate that.

We just took DC to the zoo for the day as we don’t live near family.

Nothing particular. Just a few family round for cake. Not sure we even bought them presents as they had no idea and we knew they'd get loads from other people

For one of them we did a bbq for family and friends (summer birthday) other one we went to the zoo. For one of them didn't do anything to close to Christmas and no money just had people drop in throughout the day and had a buffet and cake

We went out for lunch and to the park with grandparents. Dts are 14
now, thinking back I don’t think any of us had parties for first birthdays.

We went all out and they had big 1st birthday parties. It was so much fun for everyone.
