PLEASE give me some ideas for a PIRATE PARTY

Ds1 is planning his 7th birthday party, and he wants a 'pirate party'. It's going to be at our house - too disorganised to have booked anything else. He is obssessed with Pirates of the Caribbean, so anything specific to this would be good. He would like to invite Johnny Depp and Orlando Bloom, but I think this is unlikely...

Ideas so far;
Pirates Bouncy Castle (or any bouncy castle)
Treasure Chest Pinata
Treasure Hunt
Fancy Dress

Any other thoughts? Am dreading it tbh, am hoping to have it outside so they don't trash the house completely....but lots of 7 year old boys doesn't fill me with hope, so I think it needs to be REALLY organised!

If you do get Johnny Depp or Orlando Bloom... can I come?

Flame · 22/05/2008 16:58

Is 7 too old for pin the eyepatch on the pirate?

tortoiseSHELL · 22/05/2008 16:58

That's a really good idea! And of course you can, assuming I get JD!

We did musical islands(mats), a find the treasure game (name flags stuck into sandpit), "Port, Starboard" , walk the plank blindfold

They are BOUND to start swordfighting at some point so perhaps might be prudent to swap their own armament for balloon cutlasses at the outset.

Make Daddy walk the plank into a paddling pool?

jingleyjen · 22/05/2008 17:04

they are a bit older than my DS but this thread covers what we did for his pirate party last month

hifi · 22/05/2008 17:06

waitrose has an amazing chest of gold coins cake, dd friend had one last week, gasps when it was brought out.

hifi · 22/05/2008 17:08

plus an amazing pirate ship cake.

If you think they'd like some crafty ideas, there are some here and here.

Pin the parrot on the pirate (If you are artistic enough to make a pirate and parrot )

Also, cut some fishes out of newspaper, paint, and have a race where they have to fan their fishes to the finishing line with another newspaper.

VersdeSociete · 22/05/2008 17:14

Pin the treasure chest on the x on the treasure map works well if you can draw.
Hot parrot (pass round a blowup or other parrot whilst music goes, person holding when music stops is out and etc)
Make father dress up as the one with tentacles hanging out of face...

CountessDracula · 22/05/2008 17:14

dress up as pirates
Shout oooarrr jim lad
etc

Surfermum · 22/05/2008 17:15

We did pirates and princesses last week!

One of our games was swab the decks - pushing a balloon round an obstacle course with a broom.

We did a treasure hunt and planned musical gang plank (run to the gangplank when the music stops) but ran out of time. Did musical sleeping beauties though!

There were some great ideas for games when I googled - but they were all a bit old/wet for our party! Will see if I can get you a link.

VersdeSociete · 22/05/2008 17:17

At least it's not vikings he wants. Lord is it hard to get viking-themed party merchandise...

MarsLady · 22/05/2008 17:17

Should Orlando or even Johnny turn up at yours ... call me. I'll happily help entertain the boys (and I don't mean the 7 yos)

HeadFairy · 22/05/2008 17:17

just don't fly a skull and crossbones outside your house!

Flame · 22/05/2008 17:17

Based on last year - do anything Surfer suggests, her parties are fab

Thanks - some fab ideas! YG - that would be amazing, if you've got time to do that, that would be amazing! I will ask ds1 what he thinks of the ideas - I like 'pin the parrot on the pirate', treasure hunt, and swabbing the decks sounds great fun. I think I need to find some games that can be done by teams, as ds1 is sure to want to invite lots of children, so I think teams would be good. I also wondered about a variation on that game where you sit in a circle with a mars bar in the middle and when you get a 6 have to put on hat/gloves/scarf etc then eat mars bar with knife and fork - using pirate costume etc.

Thanks again!

torsoiseshell I have now binned that choc eating game as find it has built in boredom for too many (ie if you have more than about a dozen kids).

DS2 had pirate party last year and flap a fish in teams was unexpected success.

Also a game I invented where I drew a treasure map and marked it in squares - told whacky story about pirate bringing it to my door (they were all engrossed so I spun it out a bit) and then they all picked a square and at the end I opened an envelope to reveal the winning square was B4 or whatever.

Surfermum · 24/05/2008 13:56

OMG I just read HeadFairy's link! That's lunacy!!

We have one of those and hung it on door to the church hall. And we have it on a huge long pole outside our tent when we go camping.
