Nursery birthday party etiquette

DC has been invited to the first birthday party in the nursery group. It seems that the parents of four of the children have joined forces to hold one party and invited everyone in the room.

What’s the etiquette regarding gifts for the children? Normally I’d spend around £15-20, but given there are 4 of them celebrating their birthday, it could cost £80. That seems quite a lot to pay for one party or AIBU?

If I spend £10 per child instead, is it too little? It will obviously be a smaller gift and I just don’t want to be in the wrong here.

Any input is appreciated as I have zero experience with children’s parties. I do want DC to attend and have already RSVPd so that’s not in question.

We just stick a fiver in a card. You're more than generous

I would buy them each a nice book, for about £7.99 each. How old are the kids? I used to choose a book that I thought was genuinely good and DS had enjoyed. Now he is 3 he tells me which book he thinks his friend will like. If the children have older siblings I get something published this year, then they won't have it already.

If they are turning 3 that's a great age for starting to play easy turn-taking games so you can get those Orchard Games ones for under a tenner. Or that's also around when they start being able to do jigsaws.

Just buy whatever you’d normally buy. If you had a party last week, one next and two next month then you wouldn’t question it. It’s the same principle except only one weekend to give up (yay!). But £10 is an absolutely ok budget, I’d only spend £20 on a good friend of my older DD. Nursery age friend of my youngest gets £10-15. I got the last one a 4+ lego city bulldozer for £12.
