Help! ds invited to his 1st b'day party, what do I do?

I haven't been to a kids' party for about 13 years so have no clues what the protocol is!

Party is from 11-2 - ds is usually asleep til nearly noon - should I ask the mum if it's okay to be late?

And what do we get the 2yo birthday boy? (It was my ds's birthday two weeks ago, they gave him a card.) I don't know them very well, and money is very tight here.

Is there any other etiquette I should know about?

Fiver tops for present booka are always good. You can skip his nap or let him sleep later for one day. At a two year old's party you would be expected to stay as well.
