Food for 5 year old afternoon party

Hi,

As the title suggests I’m organising a birthday party for 5 years old that starts at 2:30.

What food for the kids and parents is best to serve for snacking? There will also be sandwiches and cake.

Many thanks!

I’d scrap the sandwiches and offer pizza, crisps and lots of chocolate biscuits like Cadbury fingers .

Rebootnecessary · 30/08/2024 14:15

What activities are you doing and what time does the party end? Are you thinking the children would just graze on snacks throughout the party or all sit down together?

MinervaMcGonagallsCat · 30/08/2024 14:16

At 5 all they need is

ham or cheese sandwich
pom bears
freddo
carton of orange or apple juice

Smartiepants79 · 30/08/2024 14:18

Don’t bother making sarnies.
Little sausages, sausage rolls, pizza, crisps. I buy those mini bags of mini biscuits like cookies and party rings. Chop up a watermelon.

Jug of squash is cheaper than a load of cartons And less waste

Def not sandwiches. Agree with above posters

Growlybear83 · 30/08/2024 14:20

I agree with the previous suggestions for pizzas, crisps, little sausages, and chocolate biscuits.

Needmorelego · 30/08/2024 14:22

Crisps, Sausage Rolls/Veggie Alternative, Small biscuits, fruit like strawberries and more crisps 🙂
I wouldn't bother with sandwiches.

@Rebootnecessary the part is 2 hours so 2:30-4:30 and they’ll have a bouncy castle.

Thanks everyone for the great suggestions!

So they will have had lunch before the party and will have tea when they get home. They only really need a drink and a piece of cake. So much party food gets wasted.

We tend to do a slow cooker full of hot dogs with sliced buns at the side and a variety of sauces. Nuggets/goujons. Pizza. Sausage rolls. Rainbow Fruit kebabs. Oddly we found that mini onion bhajis and samosas went down a storm with primary age kids, along with sliced veg sticks and hummus.

I feel like other parents have set the bar high lol
The tables are always full and it’s always at this time of day… but I forget what’s on it. Pizzas could be nice but there’s no oven to warm them up, I don’t think.

@WitchyBits oh wow that sounds delicious!

@Rebootnecessary I’m copying the last party where sandwiches and cake were served at 4pm. I’m always worries there not going to be enough food :)

Also thinking about the parents - tortilla chips with deep, crisps and fruits?

Why are people saying pizza, too much work faffing about doing hot food when you have a house full of littlies

Fifi80 · 30/08/2024 14:46

@Summertimer I was wondering about that too. It’s easy to make them in a playdate but for 15 kids in a hired venue it would be less feasible.

We have the pizzas delivered so really easy

Fifi80 · 30/08/2024 14:55

@Parker231 ah makes sense. That’s a great idea

Not sure why people are saying no sandwiches, I did a big platter
of white bread ham, jam and cheese sandwiches (not together!) and DD’s last party and they all went.

Also cocktail sausages, chicken nuggets (cook beforehand and serve cold, can also do with with pizza), cucumber sticks/peppers/carrot sticks, bowls of wotsits/quavers, then plates of choc fingers, biscuits and party rings for sweet stuff. Few bowls of crisps will be fine for parents, I never expect to be fed at a kids party.

Good luck!

@MindatWork fantastic idea! Thank you 🙏🏼

You posted at 2.11pm for ideas for a party that started at 2.30pm?! I presume (hope!) I misunderstood and the party is a few days away?! 😂

Fifi80 · 30/08/2024 15:58

@VotesForWomen lol the party is tomorrow and I can amend my grocery delivery until tonight ;)
