London 60th birthday ideas

HighburyLass · 29/06/2024 21:46

We are a group of friends who are looking for ideas for a 60th birthday celebration.
A "doing" activity, not a meal/drinks (although that will feature)
Just looking for some fun thing to do together.
We are all quite sporty, but also like culture.
There must be loads of things in London but we're drawing a blank.

Any ideas gratefully received!

What about climbing the O2 if you don’t mind heights?

Theres all the fun group activities: flight club, bounce (or similar ping pong) ace throwing, swingers crazy golf etc.

All of you can’t think of a single thing in London to do??

RosesAndHellebores · 30/06/2024 04:49

Depending how many of you there are, you could rent a pod on the London Eye just for your party and toast the birthday person with champagne whilst watching the view.

You could book a guided walk.

Sleepover at the Natural History Museum if you aren't too grown up for it.

Talk at Covent Garden - they do lots of studio days/tours.

Lawn Tennis Museum Wimbledon

I did a helicopter 🚁 ride along the Thames followed by afternoon tea at The Wolseley.

Hot tub boat
Wild swimming
Mudlarking

blue345 · 30/06/2024 06:58

There's a company that does self drive hot tub boats around Canary Wharf.

Or there's lots of good escape rooms - there's a nice one by London Bridge, you could have a wander around Borough Market and enjoy the views at Aqua Shard afterwards.

blue345 · 30/06/2024 06:59

Sorry, morning eyes, didn't see the hot tub boats had been recommended already.

HighburyLass · 30/06/2024 09:28

Thank you everyone for some really great ideas!

Yes of course we can think of something. Just asking for some ideas for fun/different things we might not be aware of. There's awful lot of stuff going on in our wonderful city, so there's not a chance we know of everything.
Thanks for taking the time to post

I also enjoyed the karaoke rooms off Regent Street if you have wannabe Mariah Careys among you.

Or there's various cookery courses, my in laws really enjoyed a pasta making afternoon at La Cucina Caldesi in Marylebone.

Taxidermy class- https://www.afieldguide.org/workshops.html

Last Tuesday society- A quirky museum under an absinthe bar. You could walk to Victoria park or London Fields instead of drinking in the bar though. https://www.thelasttuesdaysociety.org/museum/

Life sized monopoly- https://www.visitlondon.com/things-to-do/place/49186375-monopoly-lifesized

Jack the ripper walking tour or gangster tour https://britmovietours.com/bookings/gangster-tour-of-london/

So what ideas have you discussed and discounted then?

things to do in London London is a pretty wide bracket.

Johnhasalongmoustache · 30/06/2024 13:53

What I remember the monopoly things pretty expensive.

And why would anybody go on a tour where women were raped and murdered? 🤔

always wanted to try one of those piano bars, might be fun after you’ve had a meal somewhere

Johnhasalongmoustache · 30/06/2024 13:54

There’s also that new subterranean spa/ bath thing, can’t remember what it’s called, but it looks great

Johnhasalongmoustache · 30/06/2024 13:55

Pasta making is a good idea, my son and his girlfriend went somewhere in Central to do that. Don’t do those awful cycling drinking things so everybody hates you if you’re on that.

HighburyLass · 30/06/2024 14:52

Thanks again everyone for taking the time to respond. Loads of ideas to share with the group

An escape room? They're good fun.

BC2603 · 30/06/2024 15:21

Fairgame at Canary Wharf
Brilliant fun!

I see these round the city- look like a laugh

https://pedibus.co.uk

Please dont- as a central London resident they are a total curse. They block traffic and blare out noise plus the antisocial behaviour and abuse from the riders (I dont want to see your boobs or your bum)
