American
no idea what you put in them
odd imo

Cappuccino · 06/04/2008 15:23

yes v odd

it's okay to bash this with a stick

but not any other toy/ animal/ person/ piece of furniture

MmeCellophane · 06/04/2008 15:23

You hang it from say, a tree. Kids take it in turns to bash it with a stick, until it breaks and goodies fall out (small toys/sweets). FGS, make sure you police it well. I've seen them being bashed with LOs standing only 1 ft away . An orderly line, well away, would be in order!

Kids seem to enjoy it. They are amazingly hard to break, though.

ooops, see they're pinatas not pinantas!

Personally, wouldn't waste my money on it - often has to be broken by an adult. Then there's a huge bun fight for the prizes.

WideWebWitch · 06/04/2008 15:30

I wouldn't either esp as expect boys aren't askign for it
saw one at a 4yo party, all children looked bewildered, as did adults.

Small children + big stick = recipe for disaster IME

We love a pinata!

The kids hit it with one of my DSs lightsabers.

For halloween I put stretchy plastic creepy crawlies in, eyeball balls, and haribo horror mix.

Other times I have put treat sized chocoaltes in, small packets of bagged sweets, lollies etc.

ingles2 · 06/04/2008 22:01

we've had a few pinatas. generally we put sweets and boys tat in them...plastic soldiers, those little parachuting army men , bouncy balls etc etc BUT the boys have NEVER managed to break one and it has been down to DH every time!

hairycaterpillar · 07/04/2008 18:58

Can make your own with ballon and paper mache affair (have done in past, break MUCH easier than shop bought ones and cost pennies in comparison...we do it at Easter sometimes) ...could maybe be giant dinosaur egg?!?

Have to agree about 20 boys and stick being a recipe for trouble though!

TheFallenMadonna · 07/04/2008 19:01

Oh we love a pinata too. But you have to sabotage them first. And have a strict exclusion zone.
