Birthday celebrations - close together

My husband and toddler daughter have birthdays on consecutive days. For the last three years my husband's birthday has been somewhat sidelined, for which I feel bad. A lot of prep for my daughters day (decorating etc) happens on DH's birthday evening.

Does anyone else have this? Any ideas for how I can make sure both days are celebrated?

We have a similar problem inly it's our Wedding Anniversary rather than a birthday.

Could you take the day off if you're both working and have a day out together assuming she's in Nursery/School or you have someone to look after her for a few hours?
