At Home Parties 'v' Venue Parties

Hi,
I am currently undertaking some research for a detailed blog post about the rising cost of children's parties. My kids are 18,16 and 12 now so I'm a little bit out of touch, i.e is it still the fashion to throw parties for the entire class? Are 'at home' parties completely dying out or perhaps on the rise? Is going in fancy dress to parties still popular for younger children? I would be delighted if anyone could share some insight into the kind of costs that are involved these days for hiring party venues and organised party activities and also to share comments on the pros and cons of At Home Parties v Venue Parties.
