Party games for kids AND oldies

I'm hosting a family party which will stretch a whole day/evening and include kids from 6 all the way up to proper oldies (90+). I want a bit of focused entertainment so need a party game or quiz or task to keep everyone occupied. Perhaps team based. Any ideas??

We all love the 'Sock Game'

FusionChefGeoff · 28/12/2023 00:20

Squeak piggy squeak is ridiculous but works so well for huge range of ages

Landlubber2019 · 28/12/2023 00:36

Sounds fishy, herd mentality are both excellent group games as is Uno extreme!

ReflectiveRogue1001 · 28/12/2023 00:41

Can't go wrong with charades

iklboo · 28/12/2023 01:01

Definitely charades. Kept ages 7 - 83 entertained for us. Pick things everyone will know as clues.

Dontbesuspicious · 28/12/2023 01:20

Do you have a switch (et al)??
We got just dance for xmas and it kept everyone entertained .. there are really easy dances and some to children's songs.

We also got a karaoke machine.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'd rather not buy a whole game if possible- hoping for a DIY effort!

replace ashtray with any old pot (a metal pan is good because it makes a noise) and skip the drinking forfeit. Very funny for all generations.

I'm afraid we're not really a 'putting coins in our bum cracks' kind of family. Although my mother's face if I suggested the idea would be entertaining for all!

I mean you do it over the clothes, easier in trousers than dresses! My 90 year old grandmother is as prim and proper as them come and even she’s entertained. I say don’t knock til you try it!

Spoons is a winner. You may lose some fingers

You could do a homemade version of charades or articulate. Put lots of names of whatever categories you choose (geography, nature, films etc) on pieces of card & use that as your take pile. Put everyone in mixed age groups of 2 or 3 and act out/describe what is on the chosen card for their teammates. Each correct guess is a point and the team with the most points wins after a certain amount of time or until the cards run out.
How many people will there be?

Mistlebough · 28/12/2023 19:14

Another vote for charades but do coloured card for younger children so something simple they’ve heard of.
In the manner of the word great all ages and funny.
Spoons is top game😃
Scavenger hunt race in teams

Gassy Gus had 8 people aged from 4 to 70 entertained here for an hour yesterday 😁

The Saucepan game. Everyone writes names of 3-5 people on individual scraps of paper and put in a saucepan. Split into 2 teams. 3 rounds. 1st round is describing the person without naming them. Each person gets 20 -30 seconds to describe and their team guess who is being described. Alternates between the two teams. When the saucepan is empty of names count up the names guessed by each team. All names then go back into the saucepan. Round 2 is then charades with the same names. Round 3 - all names go back in and then you have a single word to describe the person. By this time you’ve obviously heard all the names. Caught saying ‘umm’ or ‘errr’ then that’s your single word!!

Wrap up some common household items such as spoons the odd toy and people have to guess what is inside. Kim’s game remembering what is on the tray. The chocolate game you have a large bar of chocolate in the middle you take it in turns to throw a dice. If you get a 6 you put a hat and scarf on and start to eat the chocolate with a knife and fork meanwhile people continue to throw the dice so if someone else gets a 6 the take the hat etc and start eating the chocolate. A popular game for years you need two rooms someone hides the thimble or could be a small coin people come back in the room. When someone spots the thimble they quietly sit down the game carries on until everyone has spotted the thimble. Beware this game can go on for ages as everyone wants to hide the thimble best in a cluttered room.
