Ideas for a Matilda themed party

My daughter has asked for a Matilda themed birthday party, it’s just a small party at home with close friends. I’m struggling for ideas for games/activities/decorations that are linked to the story/film. Any ideas? Thanks

Everyone gets a book instead of a party bag for sure.

Get a load of inflatable hammers to throw as a competition

Karaoke/movie sing-along
Pass the parcel - wrap with newspaper/paper with text on it, final prize is a book
Hide and seek, grandmother's footsteps, tag - the seeker/grandmother is the Trunchball
Pictionary or charades with book titles
The game where everyone writes a line to make a nonsense story
Fancy dress - maybe 'when I grow up' themed
Use cheap second-hand books to make book hedgehogs
Make a bookmark
Make simple puppets to tell a story with

Ohhh from the old movie those amazing chocolates in the wooden box would be lovely!

I like the craft ideas above, book marks anything related to books

Hammer throwing (a tennis ball in a sock will do)

Make a Matilda - each gets a pot of playdoh and picks a piece of paper that says "plaits," "hand", "foot" etc and they get the duration of Naughty to make their body parts before assembling their Matilda. Dress Up - the least messy way of doing this is to print a simple outline of a woman and have them decorate her with bits of scrap material, foil, glitter etc to design their own outfit for Mrs Wormwood. Treasure Hunt - loads of ways of doing this but you could write characters' names on yellow sticky notes and hide them round the house, with a bingo list for the kids to tick off? I know in the musical Matilda's parents are in the circus, so you could have a circus theme tying in, with a jar of jelly beans to guess the number of sweets, or tin can coconut shy. Musical Chairs* to any of the musical songs? Other party games will slot in without needing to be themed, like the one where you have to cut up chocolate with a knife and fork wearing gloves, or eating donuts off a string without using your hands. Party bags could have a book voucher, sticky newt toy and sweeties in.

Thank everybody for the ideas, I’m feeling more confident about it now!
