Sweets. Kids love the sugar.

Temporary tattoos are fun too.

AnneButNotHathaway · 02/03/2023 04:46

Hair accessories
Pens / crayons (could be lipstick or fluffy ones)
Coloring calendars
Puffer balls / fidget toys
Ring pop packs

CatMattress · 02/03/2023 04:48

Stickers. Always stickers. And a small pot of bubbles.

willow236 · 02/03/2023 04:49

My son loved to get slime.
But really any kind of fidget will do.

Passthebrownsauce · 02/03/2023 20:04

Unpopular opinion maybe but I really hate party bags and the sheer volume of plastic crap that comes home in them. We've always done books (split a multipack works out £1-2 per book) or a bag of mixed sweets

cravingtoblerone · 02/03/2023 20:18

I always say keep it simple. Cake, a packet of sweets, bubble mixture and a balloon is enough. Don't fill with cheap plastic novelties that just get chucked in the bin.

Alternately, dispense with party bags altogether and just give out sweet cones and a piece of cake.

OneMoreCookieMonster · 02/03/2023 20:34

We've done things like make your own cookie boxes from craft and crumb, books plus some sweets, flowers seeds and bug hotel kits, nature eye spy cards and binoculars. Even a little colouring book and crayons would be fab. It doesn't have to cost the world. But IMO the less plastic tat the better.

Withnailandeye · 02/03/2023 20:36

If you go to a big Asda, they do multipacks of things for party bags. I’ve just got packs of mini bubble wands, pencils, paper and rubbers, bouncy balls etc, really cheap

bonjello · 02/03/2023 20:42

Sun flower seeds

whatthebejesus · 02/03/2023 20:53

Yea also hate the plastic tat here. It goes straight in the bin and what a waste of money!
Bag of sweets, piece of cake. That's plenty.

mummymummymummummum · 02/03/2023 21:14

I went for temp tattoos (£1.39 for 10 on Amazon), sweets, cake and the got to choose a book (The Works 10 for £10, but these are even better!

mummymummymummummum · 02/03/2023 21:16

And for all my 6 year old I did these eco party bags

mangomama91 · 02/03/2023 21:19

I always do a book (the works) and some sweets

Passthebrownsauce · 03/03/2023 15:44

Thank you all for your suggestions 😀
And thanks @mummymummymummummum for the websites 😁👍

For anyone who hates the party bag crap their child brings home, here's an idea:

When it's all been played with and the kids have forgotten about it, gather it up and add it to a shoebox (get the kids to decorate a shoe box as a craft activity some rainy day) and make this the 'Get Better Box' to be brought out when the kids are off home from school/stuck in bed and feeling miserable and bored. Christmas cracker crap can go in here too. Because they only have it on odd occasions the stuff stays interesting and as it's all packed away neatly in the Get Better Box in between use it's not all strewn around the house ready to break the hoover, but it's not going straight in the bin either. Win-Win

AlwaysLatte · 11/03/2023 12:42

Things we've put in over the years: bouncy balls, mini nerf guns (that was a Nerf war party though), paper aeroplanes, mini books, fidget spinners when they were a thing, slime, jacks, mini binoculars, little metal cars, buzzing magnets, sweets.

Paint your own money box from Hobbycraft,£2 or £3
My DD aged 5 received one and loved it.

Barnstormaway787 · 11/03/2023 13:04

I’ve posted this before but my dc once went to a party where the hosts ran a Thai restaurant and instead of party bags the dc could choose from a stack of coconuts, pineapples or mangos. Went down a treat!

Bananalanacake · 11/03/2023 13:05

My DH orders a box of 20 Lego polybags from Amazon or Lego Shop at home. Puts one in each bag ( 10 guests) and keeps the rest for his own collection. We also stick in a few sweets.

Soggydog · 06/10/2023 22:47

Fidget toys from The Works

I had done 3 birthday parties so far for my sons and I had used these: -

  • stationary like pencil, eraser, pencil sharpener, post-it
  • pair of socks
  • keyrings
  • sweatbands for wrist
  • glowsticks
  • Balloon
  • stickers
  • snacks ie chocolate, haribo, chuppa chups, those lunchbox multipacks like mini jammy wheels r great too
This year my son is having a smaller party of 9 guests so I will be making them a s'more set each.
