Hi all,

Want to know if you would be willing to take your 4 yr old to a soft play bday party on Sunday evening from 5-7pm or is that too late / bothersome / throwing off Monday morning schedule situation?

Looking to book bday party for DD and have couple of options. Other 2 venues and parties have recently been done by her classmates so either I repeat it which are Sunday morning 11-1 or I do the soft play one for which exclusive hire is only available evening.

Which one would you prefer if you were the mum, repeat venue party Sunday morning or a soft play party Sunday evening. I need to pay deposits tomorrow morning!

Does it need to be a repeat party? Are there no other options? Could you not have a smaller one at home?

@LizzieBet14 well those are the only ones which are available rather are suitable for 4yo anywhere close by. We have recently moved to the area and DD goes to the preschool and has attended classmates' parties even before she joined the preschool this term. So definitely want to do an all class party. Doing at home is not an option coz it's too early to determine her close friends from school. And also have a 4m old sibling and a house not completely unpacked! 😅

Definitely the morning one. My 4 year old goes to bed at 7. He'd be an overtired nightmare at an evening party

Actually another petty question. What's the cake etiquette at these parties. Is it ok to cut and serve with food or towards the end of the food, if the venue would do that. Or do I buy separate cake boxes and hand them with party bags?

No I wouldn't go. Too late for all involved.

Just cut the cake after they've blown the candles out after food and wrap a little square in a napkin and put in party bags.

This!

I’d take my kids (they’re older now but would have been fine with that time). Understand some kids have super early bedtime routines though so i imagine it wouldn’t suit many.

Far too late for 4 year olds. I wouldn't go. The morning one is fine. All kids parties get repeated. No one will bat an eyelid.

This. I’d be very unlikely to go to a kids party 5-7pm on a Sunday.

MajorCarolDanvers · 17/01/2023 19:27

Sunday morning absolutely

5-7pm is too late for 4 olds and Sunday night not fun for working parents getting ready for the week ahead

I'd ask the venue what they normally do and do that.

IWasFunBeforeMum · 17/01/2023 19:29

No way would I go to a 5-7! Do the early one.

escapingthecity · 17/01/2023 19:32

We are into bath and bed routine from 6-15 so that would be way too late for us. Would do 4-6 at a push

AlwaysAReason · 17/01/2023 19:34

Too late for most children. You're hype them up while they should be starting to wind down. I might still go though, as a one off.

HappyAsASandboy · 17/01/2023 19:37

For my family that would be too late for a four year old, particularly on a Sunday.

Go for the Sunday morning slot!

Iwasntgettingasandwich · 17/01/2023 19:48

Morning definitely. There's a reason you've been to so many of them! Kids are not tired and it lets you get on with the rest of the day.

Dinosaursdontgrowontrees · 17/01/2023 19:53

I’ve just booked one for the same time and everyone I’ve invited is super keen. But. My son is turning 7. I think at 4 is too late. Sorry. Morning party sounds great.

Lulu1919 · 17/01/2023 19:53

Too late
