My ds is having a birthday party tomorrow for 30 children, I had booked a disco but he's just cancelled so I need ideas for party games for 30 children aged between 3 and 8, the majority are 6 though!
so far have thought of musical bumps, musical statues and dancing, but can't do pass the parcsl so any other suggestions will be greatfully received! Thanks

Pin tail on donkey. pinata. four corners with different colours, animals names or similar, kids dance, when music stops run to a corner. Someone independent calls out one of the corners, whoever is there is out, repeat til only 1 person left - you have your winner.

you could do fruit salad, where each child is a fruit ie. touch one on the head and call them an apple, the next is a banana and the next is a strawberry. go round naming each fruit (only have 3 or 4 fruits). you then call out the fruit like 'apple' then all the apples have to run around the circle, the last one back to their place is out. continue with other fruits. call out 'fruit salad' now and again and the whole lot of them run around.

lots of noise but they love it!

also wink murder is good and sharks are coming. if you can understand my instructions for fruit salad i'll post the other ones!

That sounds great! I won't ever have a party with that many but what good fun for those who do!

Pieces of coloured paper (say 4) on each side of the room. A hat containing coordinating coloured baloons. Play music and every child has to choose a coloured side of room and run to it - when music stops get one child to pick baloon out of hat. e.g If its red all children on red side of room stay in game, then you carry on until there is a winner.

You can get ideas for games online. I did that once and got some good ideas.

The hug game, kills 10 mins or so. Get the kids to either hop, walk, jump etc around the room and then either yell stop or blow a whistle. Then say a number between 1 and 10 and the kids have to get in a group hug of that many. I always end with shouting the number of children there actually is, so it ends in an emormous group hug.

Can you get a cd with cha cha slide, the fast food song etc, then you can play them randomly and let the kids dance. Wkll kill some time in between games. Get someone to run to asda and grab you a cd and a pinata (spelling)

Have just thought, what about the mars bar game. Get kids to sit in a circle and select a person to be it. They then have to put on hat scarf and gloves and try to cut a mars bar with a knife and fork. The person who is "it" then chooses someone else to be it. Alternatively you can put jelly sweets in a basin of flour and get them to use their faces to fish for it.

AllBuggiedOut · 25/01/2008 17:14

Simon Says. And that one where the kids sit in a circle, roll a dice and when they get a 6 go into the middle, put on hat gloves and scarf, then eat a chocolate bar with knife and fork. Next to roll a 6 takes over. Continue until choc all gone.

Musical Mats (LIke musical chairs put stand on pieces of Newspaper).

Sorting M&Ms into colours with a straw (suck & drop) or with a plastic spoon in mouth. First one to finish wins a prize.

Loo Paper Mummy game. In pairs, one wraps the other from Toe to head in (economy!) loo roll. Great laugh.

Chubby Bunnies!!!!

southeastastra · 25/01/2008 17:19

oh i've seen the paper mummy game in action, that's fab!

colditz · 25/01/2008 17:21

rich tea biscuit decorating

JossStick · 25/01/2008 17:25

Musical Chairs?

Wotz · 25/01/2008 17:26

dunking apples, great fun, no skill.

feetheart · 25/01/2008 17:34

Second Fruit Salad.

Also North, South, East, West. Designate each wall in the room a point on the compass, then have a random number of other actions eg 'Scrub the decks' - get down on all 4 and mime scrubbing, 'Here comes the Captain' - all salute and say 'Aye, Aye Captain, 'The Captain's Lady' - everyone has to curtsey, 'Climb the rigging' - mime it!
Get children to run round/dance to music then yell an 'order'. If you want to really wear them out keep shouting points of compass No real winners so no need for prizes either!
Great for just before food as then too knackered to mess about!!

The Sun Shines on. Get everyone in a circle apart from 1 child. They have to say "The sun shines on everyone wearing trainers/who has a brother/who likes chocolate/etc/etc/etc. All those who it applies to have to get up and find another place to sit whilst the person in the middle tries to sit down so that someone else is in the middle. Hope that makes sense?! Can go on for ages if you want it to and again no prizes. Cheapskate moi?

feetheart · 25/01/2008 17:36

If doing Musical mats don't use newspaper, far too messy and slippy, try and get hold of carpet samples if you can though might be a bit much at short notice.

catinthehat · 25/01/2008 17:37

And Chubby Bunnies is .. exactly.. what?

Milliways · 25/01/2008 17:44

Chubby Bunnies is gross great

Need a huge bag of marshmallows (and a bucket!).

Each child takes one (NO CHEWING/SWALLOWING allowed) and says "Chubby Bunnies". When all successful, all get another one and repeat process. After 3 or 4 the dribbling starts when speaking. You are out when chew/swallow/spit out.

Some kids get 10 in! It's hysterical watching them.

NB: Do NOT spit into loo - they float & do not flush!!!

catinthehat · 25/01/2008 17:46

Coolio!

137wallis · 25/01/2008 20:04

thanks great ideas so far love the marshmallow one! not sure hubbie will though, hates food gamnes think I should make him play that one any more greatfully received need to fill about an hour and a half!

Treasure Hunt, in teams, preferably outside! Simple clues, treat at the end. 30 kids is sheer madness

There will, also, co course be lots of presents to open, so prepare for that and incorporate it into the party.

137wallis · 25/01/2008 20:14

I asked the whole class, thinking about half wouldn't come, but all but 3 are and with my kids and family, theres 30! and now the discos cancelled i'm panicing abit!

toolly · 25/01/2008 20:18

get them all to take of their shoes and socks and cover them sheet so only their feet are showing. One child has to guess whose feet they belong to. Quite fun but might be a bit too chaotic with 30.Maybe split them up into three groups of ten?

bodiddly · 25/01/2008 20:27

how about the old one where you give them a fish cut out of card or paper and they have races flapping them with a board or newspaper and the first one to the other end wins a prize.

Janni · 26/01/2008 20:43

HOW DID IT GO??? Are you still alive? Did you lose anyone?
