Hi all really need some help PLEASE

DS 16th birthday end of June and have no clue what to do, he will be finishing his GCSE’s and wanted to do something special for him

I thought dinner at the shard but the menus look horrible I also have a daughter who’s 10 and won’t touch a thing on the various menus they have

he doesn’t want a big party with friends etc as he’d rather it be just a family thing, he is VERY mature for his age more mature than me most days lol so anything childish is out

we always do a party at home with family etc every year

so need some ideas on something different

what did you do for your child’s 16th ??

thank you

Littlemissprosecco · 17/05/2022 14:05

Where are you? near London?
Does he like theatre? a show with dinner? comedy?

Weekend away doing an activity - coasteering?

tinx · 17/05/2022 14:20

escape room
laserquest
bowling

what sort of food does he like? maybe find a posh version of that somewhere? eg if burgers than an upmarket burger place, if indian then a really nice one.

If you want somewhere to eat with a view how about one of the Sky Garden restaurants? There is a fine dining one (Fenchurch) and a brasserie.

DianaDoors · 17/05/2022 14:51

Or Duck and Waffle, but then you don't have the Sky Garden.

Activities like escape rooms or climbing wall, laser tag, maybe shows if there will be any he might like. Family dinner and a birthday slideshow 3d video is also an option still but more like an addition at that.

For our son, we had a meal out as a family at his favourite restaurant on his birthday as well as lots of presents and cake/champagne at home. Then a long dog walk as the dogs are his favourite thing. 😂 Then he had a weekend away with his friends a few days later.

Does he have any suggestions or would he prefer you to just plan something?

My family always did parties at home when I was younger too. My parents suggested something special for my 18th and I genuinely didn't want it, because I really looked forward to my home parties every year.

In the end I did something different with my friends at the weekend and still had my party at home on the actual day (although being the oldest in the class there was little I could really do for an 18th as my friends couldn't drink yet!)

A nice holiday somewhere?

MintyCedricRidesAgain · 01/06/2022 10:59

Google London Crazy golf...there are loads of indoor places with fun themes, some have DJs and brunch options.

Or Sky Garden is free (but need to book entry) then a meal somewhere that would appeal to him...what sort of food does he like?

Inamo is a Japanese/Korean place with interactive menus projected on the tables...I fancied it for DDs 18th but she doesn't unfortunately!

What about a boat ride along the Thames with a stop off for a pub lunch? Maybe down to Greenwich?
