Hi, there's eight of us going away this weekend and staying in a cottage with lots of space. Me and my DH are responsible for games night.

Can anyone give me ideas of games you know will go down well.

Up to now I've got the guessing game, where they take a name out of a hat and have to describe it to their partner who has to guess who it is correctly. Prefer not to do drinking games as we'll be doing enough of that Smile.

Thanks

Exploding Kittens is good fun, easy to learn too.

@iklboo
Thank you for that. it looks good but I don't really want to spend much money if I don't have to (I should have mentioned that) due to paying for the weekend/food/drink. So I was thinking along the lines of home made games. I might do the one where you put a stocking on your head and knock bottles over.

How about mafia/werewolf (variants of the game are called different things but all along the same lines), perhaps a little more dark so maybe not one to play with very sensitive souls - it's the one where you secretly assign 2-3 people as the 'murderer'/werewolf/mafia and you have rounds where everyone 'goes to sleep' ie closes their eyes and the 'murderers' touch their 'victims' on the head. When everyone 'wakes' the person running the game dramatically announces 'oh no, Bob has been brutally murdered' and the group has to guess who is the murderer - the group wins if they successfully identify the murderers, the murderers win if they kill everyone!

You can also do a pub quiz with music rounds etc., or articulate/charades/pictionary also always go down well, you don't have to buy the proper game you can just make your own with your own lists (bonus being you can personalise and/or make it funny/risque if you like). I would say though for a big group you need loads of words/topics so I'd probably make it one round in a bigger competition than try and play for a long time... for something a little more intellectual we play the Sunday FT quiz as a family after Sunday dinner (I know, we're a hoot) and it's quite fun, there's a whole back catalogue on there so you can pick up, again maybe as a round in a bigger quiz?

Or so long as people can be relied on to be fairly sensible and not run wild breaking things or falling over, a treasure hunt or scavenger hunt around the cottage? Or sardines/hide and seek although I can never play that again after watching the Inside Number 9 episode!

Ah, ok. I get you.

The After Eight on the forehead to the mouth

Eat dry cream crackers the quickest

One person stands behind the other & puts their arms around in front, becoming the person's arms. Then a task like eating some ice cream, put make up on etc

Tie a large potato on a string & around the waist of the player so it's behind them. They have to knock a small potato down the course using only the big potato

Pictionary (you can write the words yourself on bits of paper)

Charades

Watch Richard Osman's House Of Games to rip off get some ideas too ☺️

Richard Osman's House Of Games is totally the best, definitely look into it!
You can play guessing games with pictures, like take a bunch of celebrity's pictures and make some photo montage (removing people from photos or swapping faces or whatever) and then people guess who the original celebs are.
Singing contests might be a great option, too!
