Ideas for my son's 3rd birthday? (sorry if this has been asked a million times before!)

My son turns 3 next month and we'd like to have a party for him. Does anyone have any advice on the best way to celebrate for this age group (party at home, soft play centre etc? Bearing in mind he has ants in his pants and his favourite past time is tearing around like a nutter!). Also, what sort of numbers would you suggest? And how long should the party be?

many thanks oh wise MN-ers!

bouncy castle? your leisure centre most likely do this type of party as garden in January might not work (both my dcs have Feb birthdays so I'm used to that problem), no more than 12 kids, an hour and a half including eating time. Eat after the bouncing and have fun!

For DS's third birthday, we hired a local village hall, and for a fiver, also hired all the toys for the local toddler group that meets there. Worked well for us, as it wasn't a toddler group that DS goes to, so all the toys etc were a novelty for him and his friends. Didn't bother trying to organise any games, just did party tea. Worked very well.

hi there ..last year my friend hired out local community centre and they threw in bouncy castle ... some adults id face painting and there was a tea half way through ( good idea ) and then just one game pass the parcel ) it worked but it was hard work with all the clearing up and everything . i went to one recently in a house and there were no parents ( just drop off ) and 6 children it was only for an housr and half and they had tea half way through then painted pirate faces ... it was really quick and fairly quiet ( would like to do same for my dd 4th but house is building site at mo .
