HELP RSVP's to party in 2 days!

It is my sons 9th birthday party in 2 days time, invites went out a few weeks ago with RSVP details and out of 8 guests only 1 has replied. I have read a few posts on here with people offering different things to try and get responses which I have exhausted but unfortunately I haven't been able to get any more. My only question is should I cancel or go ahead and see if they turn up or not? It is booked at a popular chain restaurant, so if it goes ahead and only the 1 person attends it will be me, my son and the other child and their father - I'm nervously laughing at how awkward this will be!! What do I do??

Do you have any contact details for their parents or a Facebook group you could ask through?

CrispsandChips · 27/01/2022 22:23

No nothing like that, I have even hung around on the playground in the hope to catch them on the way in and out but no luck. We started the school a mnth before initial lockdown so I don't even know any of the mums / dads to ask. I am relying on my son's help to identify people!
I think I am going to message some of my friends who have older children and bribe them with pizza!

I’d be tempted to cancel and do something more special with the child that is coming. Cinema and meal out for example.

I had a situation with ds in year 4 where I invited the whole class. Loads of people didn’t respond and they didn’t turn up on the day either. I ended up inviting the childminders charges and some kids that he’d met once via a friendship website just to fill the hall.

CrispsandChips · 27/01/2022 22:42

Cancelling and arranging just with the one child would make more sense and less stressful!

Come back and report what you decided. Maybe your son has some ideas what he’d like to do with his friend. I never had a large party again after the stress!

CrispsandChips · 28/01/2022 16:26

Weve decided to cancel the party, I tried to find mums on the playground today but everyone scattered so only got round 1! Im going with your cinema idea, and spoil them with a McDonald's after. What an absolute stress. Defo never again!

I think you’ve made the right decision. I hope your son has a whale of a time with his friend!
Next time he gets a party invite… keep them hanging! Wink

God I hope the non rsvpers turn up to an empty hall.
People are so rude!

ItsSnowJokes · 28/01/2022 21:10

This is a massive peeve of mine, it's just fucking rude not to rsvp. People will come out with all sorts of excuses of why they can't rsvp blah blah blah, but it takes 20 seconds to send a text.

Good for you cancelling, I hope they have a fab treat at the cinema together.

CrispsandChips · 28/01/2022 23:59

Thank you everyone, I will put my over enthusiastic mum pants on and just make everything a big deal for him haha. Next time we get an invite I will send a glitter bomb in the RSVP ..... or is that too petty Grin

Glitter bomb sounds great!

How did his day go?

CrispsandChips · 29/01/2022 21:37

It went really well Smile they had a lovely time with lots of smiles. One of the mums text me in the AM, I wasnt going to reply but felt bad so I did Hmm I even offered the cinema trip but luckily the cinema was for later and she had plans so it was just the two of them. It worked out less stressful and cheaper. Never will I arrnage a full party again. Lesson learned.

Awww that’s good he had a good time. You completely did the right thing there. What a cheek of that last-minute mum, you’re a better person than me offering the cinema! I hope she apologised!

LegsMiserables · 29/01/2022 22:37

I just can't believe that - it's so rude not to even reply. I'm glad you had a good day.

CrispsandChips · 29/01/2022 22:55

So rude, some people dont have manners unfortunately
