Sandwiches in food boxes 🥪

I’ve decided to do a food box for my 4 year olds party and decided on sandwiches. What’s the best way to wrap them? Really don’t fancy spending £7 on 100 seal bags but then cling film isn’t as presentable?

Why do they need wrapping? I made party boxes and just had the sandwiches in there unwrapped. I used paper muffin cases hold the chopped fruit and goldfish crackers

Lou573 · 20/01/2022 20:46

Paper sandwich bags.

Lou573 · 20/01/2022 20:46

You can get them in pretty colours and patterns!

MummyDeux · 20/01/2022 21:01

@Lou573 thanks! Do you mean those candy stripe sweet bag types?

I'm doing the same: i just bought
60 kids Sandwich bags with stickers from pound land

ZingyLemon · 20/01/2022 21:27

Pop them in a square of grease proof paper?

MummyDeux · 20/01/2022 21:51

@HanSB @calliecapers what did you put in your party boxes? I was going to do jam sandwiches, fruit snack pack (apple and grapes), party rings and water. I wonder if that’s enough or too much sugar… as there’ll also be cake in the party bags.

MummyDeux · 20/01/2022 21:51

@ZingyLemon thanks that’s an idea

Would you maybe consider cheese or ham instead of jam sandwiches? Are the fruit packs real fruit or dried? Maybe some cucumber/pepper sticks? I'm not against a sugary party tea at 4 years old but would want some token healthy food in there personally.

SoftSheen · 20/01/2022 21:56

I would do a choice of cheese or ham sandwiches and also include some crisps- these are usually the most popular food item at a party! If the food is going in a box, no need to wrap the sandwiches.

Hairyfriend · 20/01/2022 22:01

Do they need to each be individually wrapped? CAn't you make up a platter and cover that in cling film and they help themselves at the table? Or use a large, rectangular plastic box with a lid. similar to this:

I wonder if that’s enough or too much sugar…
Not enough! It’s a party. Send ’em home buzzing.

DrCoconut · 20/01/2022 22:09

Crisps are always popular. Not sure about water for a party drink? I think we just put the food straight into the boxes when we did them.

MummyDeux · 20/01/2022 22:18

Thanks all! I thought of crisps but thought that vs party rings. Ok crisps it is. I only did jam as there are some that don’t eat dairy and some that don’t eat pork. Will look into cucumber sticks thanks @ZingyLemon! @Hairyfriend that would be sooo much easier but just wanted to avoid hands all over food. Already gonna use tongs for the adults, just trying to be a bit more careful with everything 🦠

We went to a party with party boxes when they put all the food EXCEPT sandwiches into the boxes, kept the sandwiches separate and the just asked each child 'do you want ham or cheese' etc. Worked well when some wanted a second sandwich too!

MummyDeux · 20/01/2022 22:51

@ZingyLemon ah I did think if that could work. Ok thanks.
Can breadsticks replace sarnies? Or is that a double up on crisps (or just not an alternative to a good old sandwich)

OP posts:
emberplum · 20/01/2022 23:12

How about this kind of bag? I wouldn't do a jam sandwich personally. Mine would prefer something savoury, ham, cheese, tuna, chicken or egg mayo. Crisps and party rings, it is a party!

I wouldn't give a whole load of 4 year olds grapes. I wouldn't want to be on choking alert the whole time!

OopsadayZ · 20/01/2022 23:18

Paper bags for sandwiches and make sure the grapes are cut lengthways

OopsadayZ · 20/01/2022 23:19

Yup, my thoughts too
MummyDeux · 21/01/2022 15:12

@emberplum thanks! They look cute.

So I think I’ve decided on party boxes with:
Apple and chopped grapes 😉
Cucumber batons
Crisps
Party rings
Fruit juice

Cheese sandwiches and jam sandwiches served separately when they’re at the table.

calliecapers · 21/01/2022 19:57

Will probably do cheese and/or ham
Sandwiches. Choc biscuit, crisps, box of raisins. There will be cake too.

calliecapers · 22/01/2022 07:24

Chopped apple goes brown quickly. If you want to add fruit, how about a satsuma?
