Space party - non tat gift bag ideas

Just when I want to relax, I have to start planning for DS3's birthday.

I absolutely hate gift bags, but they seem to be a must. I could do with some help on ideas for stuff that isn't expensive, isn't that hideous plastic tat and ideally is space themed. Please!

And any ideas where I can buy paper party bags without going online would be amazing!

Oh and it's a space theme!

What about a space themed book? The works might have something?

foxgoosefinch · 29/12/2021 16:04

Try Rex London - they have a space themed range for kids, with some items in the sale too.

Dd went to a party a few years ago where they all got a space hopper instead of a party bag!

MulticolourTriangles · 29/12/2021 16:06

Rex London have these space themed colouring pencils for 50p in the sale. They also have space rubbers for the same price.

MulticolourTriangles · 29/12/2021 16:06

Oh snap with all the Rex London recommendations!

There’s a game, bowl, cup, cutlery, poster etc in this theme in the children’s section of the winter sale too - you get the idea!

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 29/12/2021 16:13

Are you near a home bargains?
I got notebooks with a space theme for about £2.50 that light up
And they have glow in the dark stars in a nice tin for £1.

Flying saucer sweets
Alien slime - children will love you, parents not so much.

InTheLabyrinth · 29/12/2021 16:23

How old are the kids?

stillsleeptraining · 29/12/2021 17:40

Oh wow - thank you for all the suggestions! I didn't think I'd get any replies when there are so many interesting Christmas threads!

It's for a party at nursery so the kids will be 1-4 years old

A packet of Milkyway magic stars

foxgoosefinch · 29/12/2021 23:17

In my experience a couple of really nice things are better than lots of plastic tat and parents prefer it. So a book plus some milky way stars (as pp say), or some space themed pencils and colouring kit plus some flying saucers are ideal.

Milky Way stars sound perfect - one chocolate item in a party bag is better than loads of Haribo and Moam etc. And for bags, plain paper ones with some stars stuck on are also fine! And hats. Kids that age love a party hat to take home.

Do a load of plain vanilla fairy cakes with some royal icing and some stars on the top (you can buy tubs of premade multicoloured stars for sprinkling on, or just star sprinkles), and give the party guests one as they leave. DD had a circus party about that age, so I just got a nut free plain bought cake and put icing circus figures on the top with some mini bunting - minimum stress.

You can buy icing figures from people on the internet really easily which look great on a party cake! Simple is much better than loads of stuff!

foxgoosefinch · 29/12/2021 23:19

Eg lots of good star sprinkles and toppers here, but you can find them in lots of places - think I got a tub of multicoloured icing stars on Etsy.
