That's it really. She's not really into video games, loves reading but don't really want to just get her books. Any ideas? What are your 9 yo dds into?

My dd2 whose 8 loves anything crafty, coloured paper, glitter glue, feathers, foam, all that sort of stuff. She also loves a shopping trip to choose some new clothes, Primark is always good if you want a bag full of stuff without breaking the bank! She also thinks going for a pizza or chinese is a good treat. Depends on your budget really. Good luck!

I second crafty stuff - if you have a branch of The Works they had a 'knit a fluffy glittery pink scarf' kit that all the 8-10 girls of my acquaintance are getting this christmas...

Tamum · 15/10/2007 18:07

The only thing I would say about crafty stuff is that they do tend to have rather a lot of it at this age

pointydog · 15/10/2007 18:10

a secret diary? Quite a lot fo them about. Saw one in m&s the other day

How much do you want to spend and is it a special friend or school pal?

titchy · 16/10/2007 12:26

It's for my DD! Looking to spend around £30 or so...

a dressing up outfilt, jewlerry and bratz dolls thats what my little girl loves

An indoor tent with a foldaway chair; a secret diary; things to make fairy cakes with; sparkly hair clips; fluffy dressing gown; converse boots; a trip to a Chinese buffet; clay and paints; Berol felt tips; really good watercolour pencils - are all things my 10 year old would love!

Things she would not appreicate include Bratz dolls, Primark clothes and the ubiquitous craft kits that they seem to get zillions of every birthday and then just lurk, like Tamum says.

Dressing up outfits always a good bet though, especially generic stuff that can be used in many ways - a black cloak, a wand etc, rather than Princessy stuff.
