DH is adamant that it is ok for DS to win pass the parcel at his own party. I don't think it would be right for DS to win the big prize as he'll be getting lots of presents anyway, so it should go to one of the other children. My plan is to pick a name out of a hat (excluding DS) before the game and include a little gift in all layers of the parcel ensuring each child (including DS) has a turn.

Please let me know your thoughts - am I being mean???

It's not the done thing.

Having said that, I looked away at dd's 4th birthday party so as to be quite fair, and ended up with dd winning. Nobody seemed to mind. I think they were used to the fact that dd was getting presents that day!

of course your DS shouldn't win!

he's the host.

I felt guilty when DS1 genuinely won pin the tail on the donkey this year!

We went to a party where the birthday girl won on purpose. Thought it was a bit strange.

Random is best, and when they are little a prize in every layer. But I'm not sure pass the parcel is such a great game anyway. We did it with silly forfeits in each layer and it was much more fun (otherwise I think it's a bit boring, and can lead to upset very easily)

I have never done pass the parcel - BUT I have been to many parties where mostly there are sweets in each layer and a big present for the last one. I have a problem with this because my DS1 doesnt eat sweets and he gets upset about winning them!!

Not sure of the answer but you cant please everyone all the time!!
