What are you getting for your boys similar age?

They would both be pleased to have a new game for the DS and some books, but I'm thinking I must be able to come up with something rather more unusual/creative?! I've asked them and they haven't really suggested anything beyond a pack of Pokemon cards!

DS1 got mostly cash for his birthday from relatives, and he still hasn't spent it ... so he obviously doesn't need/want anything, does he?!

My one little inspiration is I could possibly pay for him to have a course of sailing lessons as his Christmas present .. but I'm not sure how well that would go down really.

my two are the same, it seems theyve gone past the 'toy' stage iyswim.

they're after playstation games mainly, football kits, gameboy games etc, also im thinking of getting them things they like for their bedrooms, they are into the simpsons so im gonna go for bedding, clock etc

Furball · 22/09/2007 16:47

how would a joint wii go down?

roisin · 22/09/2007 16:51

I don't really want to buy another games-type console: they haven't had the DS very long, and are quite happy with that atm.

I could get them football shirts I suppose, though they are not particularly interested!

Damn them for being so unmaterialistic: I'm sure it should be easier than this

i think boys are very hard to buy for as they get older. ds (7) doesn't have a games console so he's getting a ps2. if not, i would have no idea what to buy him

Lilymaid · 22/09/2007 16:56

Would they like Scalextric?

Pollyanna · 22/09/2007 16:58

my 8yo ds wants a drum kit (besides an ipod and a wii . He is also really still into playmobil and likes the new playmobil roman stuff, but I don't suppose many other 8yos are still into playmobil.

They get to an age where money is the best option, I think.

Can you get anything to do with a hobby of theirs? We're veering towards hobby things with dds.

Plus younger one now wants mobile phone, nintendo ds.

I do think children get so much these days and that having no ideas at Christmas is a sign of this. (same with my kids - not getting at you roisin)

My mum got orange and nuts and was grateful

Rhubarb · 22/09/2007 17:04

A disposable camera (or a real one) and a scrapbook with home made pages titled "Best Christmas Present" and "People I saw on Christmas Day" they then have to take the appropriate photos to fill up the scrapbook.

pointydog · 22/09/2007 17:05

that's a very good idea rhu

tiredemma · 22/09/2007 17:09

ds1 ( age 7) is after a PC this year to look up things for his homework etc ( I only have a laptop and spend most of my life on it for uni)

Dont know where to start to find a reasonably priced one. If anyone has any suggestions- im all ears

unknownrebelbang · 22/09/2007 17:10

My lads had a digital camera each last year for their birthdays, and they were enthralled with them. (they were 8, 10 and 12).

Alternatively, a promise of a special day out each? Get some leaflets from the place, and pop them inside a card, or buy some items that could act as clues so they have to guess. We did something similar with DS2 as an extra last year, for a musical concert, and he loved the idea.

WideWebWitch · 22/09/2007 17:11

Ds is getting a gold yu gi oh box, with some rare cards.
For his birthday (soon)
he's getting

a rare yu gi oh card
a Wii games
beyblades (he's suddenly got into them again)

do they like Star Wars or anything? The exhib at County Hall?
Football match tickets?
football mag subscription?
Goalie gloves?

roisin · 22/09/2007 17:26

Oh loads of good ideas here.

WWW What exhibition at County Hall? (We are a long way from County Hall, but are coming down during half term for a few days staying at the Travel Inn place right there!)

They don't get presents except at birthdays/Christmasses, but there are not many children in my family, and lots of doting relatives and they already have loads of stuff. Got skalextrix and digital cameras (which they are not remotely interested in.)

DS1 (10) probably wants a mobile phone, but I'm holding out on that one for a while yet!

HERE Roisin!

Tamum · 22/09/2007 17:33

Might they be interested in the Eternity 2 board game? I see the solution has to be submitted by 31st December though...uk.eternityii.com/

roisin · 22/09/2007 19:02

I've not heard of that before Tamum. I think it looks like something likely to cause serious obsession in this house!

I might get one of the smaller clue puzzles if I can find them.
