Hello, can you help? I am looking for a bar for my birthday, somewhere central like Soho but with a private area for about 50-75 people.
Not sure I fancy any of the late night london places and somewhere that's not too pricey. (not asking for much am I?)
Would love to hear some ideas.
thanks so much

There is a pub near the astoria in tottenham court road, I think it's called king george 5th. They have a basment room that's free to hire you just need to spend a certain amount at the bar. They sell really good food too and it's not too pricey.

Was at a birthday in Clerkenwell recently with basement room. Nice food. Cicada, I think. Might not be central enough for you though.

Club 49 in Soho is nice and has a VIP area that you can rent out with a minimum spend. Not sure if you'd necessarily want somewhere like that though as it gets very clubby later on.

Central London is so difficult to find places to rent out... Could you go a bit further out?

I know a great place in the City but am assuming too far out for you?

I may be very out of date, but Kettners in Soho used to have a private function room available for hire at a reasonable price. Very civlised, www.kettners.com.

Sunshinemummy - city isn't too far out. Spill! x

Pink Martini - loads of pubs in the City are normally shut at the weekend, so can be hired quite cheaply for a private do. Try checking in the EC areas.
here
here and here are three I know of. The Well in particular is good - you can hire the downstairs for a £500 minimum spend, food or drink, which I think is ok for that part of town.

There's a lovely pub on the river, just off lower Thames Street called The Samuel Pepys (Stew Lane, High Timber Street, London, EC4V 3PT). We had our son's Naming Cermony there and it was really great. The pub is directly across from the Globe Theatre, so you get great views, they did us a fantastic (really tasty and unusual) buffet for lunch and then they got pies in from Pieminster for pie and mash later. The staff are lovely, they even set up a creche area for us as we knew loads of kids would be coming. I couldn't recommend it enough.

While I was looking I also found The Pavilion, which is in Finsbury Circus. That also looks very nice.

Oh and there's a nice little balcony for the smokers.
