Things to dress up for

My DW has recently said she would like to go out somewhere for the evening where we have to dress up (I mean smart dress, not fancy dress). It is her birthday in April and I was thinking about booking a hotel in London or Manchester and taking her somewhere where we have to dress smartly? Does anyone have any good ideas of things that may be fun?

Quite a lot of people dress up a bit for the theatre. If you go to London, you could see a show in the West End.

Some people don't dress up at all so maybe don't dress up too much...but a dress and heels wont' be out of place.
