Birthday present ideas for an 8 year old girl...I am lacking in inspiration this year...

For some reason I cannot think what to buy my daughter for her 8th birthday!

I was planning on an IPOD but now think she might be a bit young for one. I have a budget of up to about £100 available.

My dd is quite arty and likes decorating her bedroom. Any ideas?

She says she wants her own bit of the garden with a bench, and also a goldfish! Am not happy about keeping a fish in captivity and not sure how to do the garden bit (not much of a gardener myself and not really sure how much my dd really wants this?)

HELP!!!

Not a main present idea, but my dd recently had her 8th birthday and the most popular present was a hairdryer. I also bought a nice largish toiletries bag and filled it with new hairbrush, shampoo/conditioner, hair protecting spray and mouse. Also a small mirror that she can put on her desk. She was chuffed to bits, felt very grown up and it has the added bonus that I now don't have to deal with arguments about going to bed with wet hair.

She also had a playmobile take along play house, which I was concerned she might be too old for, but was also a big hit and has been played with everyday. Knex - she likes construction stuff.

She has dh's old ipod and loves it by the way, so your dd may not be too young, but we do have to keep an eye on her when she takes it out.

You could always get a decent sized tank for the fish if you are worried about them being kept in captivity. i know they would still be captive but so long as they are well looked after they would be fine.

What does she want to do with the garden> Does she want a veggie patch or to grow flowers or a bit of both? If you have the space I'd go with that idea. You could make her a special area by making a raised bed for her to use or just digging over an area of lawn.

These are dd's (8) suggestions: bratz dolls (I know eugh! but she loves them); A crying baby Annabelle; a tv; a laptop; lots of make-up; a nintendo ds.
