Can anyone recommend a really good magician/entertainer for ds's 6th birthday in Sept - London?

Hi, the one we wanted is away, dammit, so wondering if anyone could recommend a wonderful childrens entertainer who does good magic, and isn't too noisy and frantic - ie puppets, comedy, ventriloquism, NOT disco and games. Ds would just like to sit and watch a show and doesn't enjoy jumping about and loud music. It will be about 10 kids at our house, so I want 'em laughing and static!

I'm in SE London if it helps.
Birthday in Sept so probably really late notice.

Very grateful for any leads!

Thanks - have emailed - but he appears to be in Norfolk, which is a real three hour schlepp to us.

Aloha I am in SW London and started a similar'ish thread last year here. Lots of good contact details. I went with the Action Station one which Bink recommended - they do story-telling and also a spy party, which I would think would be brill for 6-8 year old boys. Pricey, though.

I haven't yet mustered up the energy to think about Ds's party for this year - my only decision has been that I think I am going to have to give the DCs separate parties this year (aaarrrggghhh)

Ooh thanks Anchovy (mad thread though!) - I love the idea of the wizard except ds would be rubbish at joining in so maybe not.
I have emailed mystic marvin or whoever that CD suggested. thanks so much for that, fingers crossed he is still available.
He also does party bags which makes my heart sing - it means I won't have to, hooray!

The thread was a bit surreal! Actually, I came across one of the people who was stroppy on another thread a bit later and she was really nice: said she had read my post in a cross way when she was having a bad day and had been unreasonable about it and apologised, which was nice.

I'm thinking of doing a story party from Action Station, I think, although DS may think it unacceptably girly. He wants a ThunderBirds themed party.

One of my mates at work had a "Footballers Wives" party, which meant all the 7 year old boys came in their football strip and all the girls in their best/princess dresses, which made everyone happy. However DS doesn't like football and doesn't have a football strip, so that one is scuppered!

we saw Mrs Back To Front in Swanley park last summer and she was SO good I was desperate to book her for dd's birthday but we are sadly outside the area she covers. have feeling you may be in it in SE London though....

Thanks BK - I'll see if mystic marvin is around but it's really reassuring to have some other names to hand if the couple I've contacted are booked up.
I did giggle when I clicked on 'the gang' and found people there whose attire would definitely scare Anchovy
Noise, discos, wild running about games all definitely NOT ds's thing. He'd like storytelling, but not with participation, and he loves and is captivated by magic tricks & comedy.

Right, just booked Ian Saville, who looks & sounds completely fab fab, and I have just discovered he also does a Brechtian, socialist magic show (a hit on picket lines, I understand) which certainly makes him stand out from the crowd!
