I am having one tonight and I was wondering what your experiences of them were!!!

Not had one, but been to two. Spent an absolute fortune at both - as did many others. No idea what host gets, but i imagine in both cases host got quite a bit!

Would suggest you hold one near Christmas for full benefit - maybe early November??

Plenty of wine and nibbles go down a treat too - so people are more chatty and socialising than feeling they're "coming to buy books".

Hope you've invited loads of people!

i have plenty of wine but I am worried I havent got enough food. I'll tell you what I have, I invted around 20 people and told everyone they could bring a friend. 4 people declined the invitation.

I have 2 boxes and 1 bottle of wine, some people I know are bringing wine with them as well. I have 3 pizzas I am going to cut up into tiny bite size pieces and 6 cakes that serve 6 each. And I have next to no money. Any ideas? Has to be vegetarian. I dont want to make people feel like I am trying to milk them at the party!

can u do a home made tomato salsa and maybe a couple of other dips, then lots of carrot sticks, cucumber sticks, celery sticks, courgette sticks etc?

I shouldn't worry too much about lack of nibbles though as most people will have eaten i'd ahve thought!

whereabouts in rural Essex are you? I'm near Chelmsford. I don't drive so I guess I can't come

Been thinking about doing the Usborne books too..

..and you like Tool!!! OMG!! We gotta meet up lady!

I've been to a couple, not held them. There's always too much food, it just gets left. Provide minimum - dips, crisps and nuts at most. Drink more important.

Don't waste all your money serving up food - they're there to buy books and you're there to earn money.
