Disney dress up party

Does "Disney Fancy Dress" mean I have to fork out extortionate Disney shop prices or can I make up my own costume.

I have a loft full of Aladdin costumes for example, or does Princess Jasmine HAVE to have certain colours and my dd will be scarred for life if I send her in an original.

Who thinks up these "themes" anyway?

Personally - I would use what you have. It's highly likely that a lot of the parents will have rushed out and bought disney shop things but why should you? My DS's nursery had a 1001 dalmations party (many years ago). I sewed black spots onto a white t-shirt and trousers. Was mortified when I turned up and most of the others had the pukka disney store outfits. But DS was a dalmation as far as he was concerned and didn't bat an eyelid. Agree, why do people have these themes? Why not pirates & princesses or any old fancy dress so people can make something easily or use what they have?! Was going to say glad those days are behind me, but remembered spending hours a couple of weeks ago making a costume for my now teenage DS's school camp!
