Moulin Rouge Costume Ideas Needed

I'm going to a fancy dress party soon and the theme is Moulin Rouge. I'd be grateful for any ideas of what to wear. Especially if you have seen anything on the High Street that could fit the bill, that could be wearable for other occasions. Thank you!

Ooooh how exciting. What is the event?

I'm not sure about high street things but essentially a black net skirt would be a good starting point. I have one which I have used as a skirt in numerous costumes and also as a petticoat for other costumes. I will try to find a link. They're quite cheap from Amazon, of you may find that a local dance shop stocks them.

A few years back I went to s Moulin rouge party and just wore a plain black swimming costume and the net skirt. I glued lots of sequins and gems all over the 'bodice' of the costume so glam it up.

Earlier this year I went to the Moulin Rouge Secret Cinema event and wore the same skirt but attached some little ribbon bows to it to lift it a bit and wore a bought corset. (The corset was quite expensive but I bought it a few years back to wear with an a-line black skirt as a ballgown)

This is the style I would recommend for maximum versatility.

For some reason it won't let em post a link, but if you search amazon for Grace Karin Women's Petticoat Medium you should find what I mean....

I think if you wore fishnet tights or stockings with black high heeled ankle boots or stilettos; a coloured feather in your hair or an undersized top hat/veil fascinator thing; a choker around your neck; carried a velvet drawstring handbag you'd be perfectly accessorised.

Yes MrsMoasty Fishnets and a feather in the hair plus choker are perfect accessories.
