Baptism/first birthday double celebration what would you do?

Hey all,
My lo first birthday is coming up as we had planned to have them baptised in a few months but situations have changed and we’ve been given a date that is same day as first birthday. We’ve decided to accept date as it meant getting lo baptised earlier than expected. However I’m trying to figure out how to do a combination birthday/baptism especially as some family members are traveling from other countries to celebrate. Has anyone else done a party like this? How did you pull it off? Or suggestions on pulling it off.

Had christening, had party. Voila

I would book the church and a meal for a local venue (you could use the cake as dessert to reduce the cost)

Or organise something for the church hall /buffet but it is a bit more hassle. I'd go for a restaurant. Enough work in that really.

Thanks for replies. Sadly the church hall can’t be used due to damage :( so would have to be different locations. I was tempted to do something at home but we are doing major building work so the house is upside down..... always happens at bad times!

We used a local room (pub room would be fine) and ask them to provide tea and coffee. Then either do a buffet, pay for catering or buy a ton of cakes and do "afternoon tea". Ipad dull of music with portable speakers if you want music. Decorations for christening and birthday.

You can hire soft play toys but depending on ages and numbers of kids just give them a safe place to play and bring some large durable and easily cleaned toys from your own supply. Not necessary but an option. Do party bags and give them out early so kids can play with them there?

Lots of people have parties after a christening so its soy ready decorations and cake you need to tweak

My friend did this for my godson, christening and 1 St birthday all in one. The christening was in their local church with close friends and family, then she invited other people she would have to the party afterwards that was in a hotel/manor house type place with a hot buffet. She took toys for the little ones to play with. I suppose it depends on your budget, locality etc.

Oh, and I made the christening cake as his present and her mother in law made his first birthday cake. So plenty to go around!

Thanks again for replies :) already having issues with family members trying to put their “stamp”on it as they feel other members might want to celebrate the sAme way or place we do 🙄

When you say other might want to celebrate the same way - its increasingly common to do this now so I wouldst be put off by other relatives doing the same for their own children

Sorry I left the other comment incorrectly. What I meant to of said is apparently instead of coming to a venue like a community centre or hall, family members want to go off and have lunch elsewhere and not bother coming to the party bit as it’s not their “scene”. I understand they would of made the effort to visit us but the family members including my dad and step mum are wanting to go to this lunch instead. Just getting frustrated as the reason people are here will be to celebrate lo baptism/birthday yet they are expecting us to make it more suitable for them!

Oh ok that is crap. Tbh we had somewhere with a bar and food. If that didbt meet peoples "needs" tough luck. Invite lots of friends and people who want to celebrate with you and leave the selfish people to go off and do their own thing.

Or do christwbing at say 11, all go and have lunch at midday then birthday party at say 3 with fiat nibbles for the kids and cake which you cut up there and then.

Decorate venue in the morning or ask friends to help as you have a family lunch inbetween. That way if they stayat the pun its thiwr choice but you still feel everyone got to see your little one

I just love how we are meant to make it suitable for them 🙄
Hubby is agreed with me, we will plan what we want and those who make an effort fab and the rest we will stop making such efforts with them.
