Been to a (UK) wedding lately? Did they do that horrible tink-tink-tink thing?

I ask because people at last night's wedding were doing it .

For those of you luckily ignorant of the custom, people tink their cutlery on their glassware and to make them stop, the bride and groom have to kiss. I hate hate hate this custom - it's normal in North America, but is dire and dreadful and please stop it. Now.

It is unspeakably tiresome. The popularity of this naffo habit means that the reception of Canadian weddings are so full of tink-tink-bloody-tink that you can't hear a bloody thing for all the tinking.

Some couples make tables do recitals or songs or something if they want to make the bride and groom kiss, but the whole thing is just so unspeakably naff ... gah.

Besides, if you lot start doing this, next you'll have the couple smearing cake all over each other's faces, and brides doing money dances, and throwing garters. [shudder]

how cringy - but I am not good at weddings - I once heckled during the father of the bride's speech and had to be removed from the room.

father of the bride made some revolting navy type joke about all women are good for and I shouted out "You can't say things like that - least of all about your daughter!" and he said "Maybe someone should help that lady to leave." and DP and waiter made sure we got out pretty quick.

I had had a couple of glasses of wine but would have shouted it stone cold sober too.

one US wedding we went to had actual bells on each table that you were meant to ring to make the bride and groom kiss

now that was dire.
