Trick or Treating in London 2017

Hello all. Apologies if someone else has already asked this, but, having poked around a bit, I don't think it's a repeat. which, of course, means it definitely is. Hooray for hubris.

So: I know that Halloween falls on a Tuesday this year, but does that mean that trick-or-treating will take place that evening as well?

In the States these days the Powers That Be often choose a weekend evening prior to the 31st for children to go out on, but I don't know what the custom (such as it is) is here...any guidance very welcome.

Finally, since I'm on the topic: what's the form in terms of how late one is meant to open the door to trick-or-treaters? Last year I ended up turning off all the lights and hiding by 9, which felt both right and seriously lame all at once.

In my defence I had a one year old who hadn't ever slept through the night, so I was hysterically sleep deprived. But still.

I can’t be much help here, but when I was young ( last time I TOT’d was 2006) we did it in actual Halloween evening but had a party on a weekend. We were out until 10pm ish x

We're not in London now, but I grew up there.

I've never heard of trick or treating on any day except 31st.

Hi so thought that this would be a good place to ask this.

Where in London is a good place to trick or treat? I have just come back from the US and my little ones are use to the traditional US trick or treating but have no clue where to take them. Any suggestios for street, neighborhood or place would be lovely.

I'm now outer London/burbs, but I would say T&T is ONLY on the 31st - I've had cheeky whatsits turning up a day before in the past and they get told I don't have any sweets in. The 'rule' is that you only visit houses with a lit pumpkin - and surely no-one lights their pumpkin except on 31st?

In terms of finishing time, we decorate the house like mad, so in the last few years we've always been out of sweets very early (stocked up seriously this year... but then I thought that last year!) , but i certainly blow out the candle/don't answer the door after 8/8.30 or so - I work on the policy that helps avoid hordes of ravaging teens getting over excited (I already have two of them so I don't need any more thanks)

Yep, only T or T on 31st only and you can't stop answering the door whenever you like! Around our area (NE London) you only knock on doors with decorations (pumpkins, lanterns, etc).

UKtoUStoUK AFAIK people only really go around their own local area, I would think it a bit odd if someone travelled just to T or T.
