DS's 1st birthday - feel guilty cos he has no friends to invite!

When dd had her 1st party she had 10 friends for a party at home. DS turns 1 soon and i have just realised that he has no friends to invite! He just kind of tags along with his big sister and i dont really take his to any groups on a regular basis.

Is that really bad?

Im kind of thinking of doing just something at home (more so that DD can she we did something) and maybe invite cousins.

Am i the crappest mummy ever?

I don't think one year olds are expected to have friends as such.

DSs is on Tuesday, and I am only having one friend, her DP and 2 kids, my mum, my sister and mums friend. (D)H aswell if he turns up. I think it's more about spending it with people close to you rather than loads of people. Think quality not quantity

Oh so glad to see these other posts. I saw the OP and it nearly made me cry cos I'm worried my DS doesn't really know any other babies. Or make that, I don't know hardly any other mums - he knows plenty of babies at nursery.

None of my 4 dcs had a 1st birthday party!

DD knows the babies at nursery but it doesn't mean I'd invite them to my house. It was just us and a few family here on her 1st birthday.

1-year-olds don't even understand the concept of 'friends', let alone understand about 'birthday'. First birthday celebrations are far more about the adults (parents, grandparents or friends) than about the actual infant, so acknowledge the day, give your DC a big hug and a present, assemlbe family to do ditto big hug and present. and take lots of photograhps to be brought out in 15 years ' time when your DS brings hom e his/her first date...

Agree, 1-year-olds couldn't care less.

IME subsequent children have 1st birthday parties which their siblings, and their siblings' friends, and siblings' friends' siblings, will populate, but still the birthday children couldn't care less about having a party at all.

Your kids appear to have done this backwards mandymoo but honestly, DS will not care
