I asked my dd what she wanted for her 3rd birthday and she said ..................

dd: this pen & this bag (pointing to her actual toys)

dd: this cat
me: kanga wouldn't like being wrapped up
(dd goes to speak to the cat)
dd: she would love it

We have taken her to ToysRUs to see if there was anything she would show an interest in. The only thing that she was interested in was a 'little mermaid' dressing up outfit ds will get her and a hideous 3ft tall Ariel doll that we are NOT getting her as we do not have the space for anything that large.

She has ds's old scooter, trike & bike. They share ds's old slide, paddling pool & playhouse. She has a mini trampoline. The garden cannot fit any more toys in anyway.

I have showed her the Baby Annabel, "but I already have a baby", she has my old dolls cot.

I suppose it is nice that she is not getting too greedy BUT
I am stuck for ideas please can anyone help

why dont you give her a day out somewhere she likes? legoland or a zoo or something.

Agree that spending the money on a big day out would be best and a few little toys from ELC or somewhere to open on the day, plus the odd book etc.

my litle un wants all her older sister's toys.. dd2, started school january... and asked if her big sister would have grown out of her uniform in time so that she could have it!! think there's a theme in our house. and DD1 never wants anything unless its a bargain!! Training them young!!!

Do you really have to spend the money or could you put it in a savings account for her until she really wants something expensive and use it then. It's a shame to spend that much for the sake of having a present to open when she can't doesn't seem to be hankering after anything in particular at the moment.

At 3 ds was sticker mad and piles of stickers was the order of the day.

We also got an easel which he adored for doing his picasso like painting on.

She sounds like a total sweetie.
How nice to hear that she is so non materialistic.

If she is 3, and she is clearly grown up enough to have strong opinions, then a couple of tiny books / pressies to open and a day out maybe ideal.

No ones children really need any more toys, do they ?

Ds, (3) said, "mummy, can I go thomas day ( Thomas the Tank Day out on Watercress line) in summer, for my birfday".

She does like stickers, I could also get some more paints as we do get through those.

As her birthday is the last day of the Easter holidays, we will be doing a few outings then. It will be my first holidays when I can spend all the time with the children as I have just changed to working term-time only, so had already planned to spend some of the savings on childcare on outings.

She has no idea of the value of money so if I only spend a bit she will never know - but if I only spend a little, I feel I have to put 10 times the thought in!

if she enjoys the fact they are wrapped up, maybe you could make the wrapping fun/ extra pretty.

My dd will be three on the 2nd April and dh & I are taking her, my parents who are visiting from Cornwall, my sister and her two girls (11 and 14) and a close friend all to Paultons Park for the day and then back home for a birthday cake.

There is nothing she 'needs' or 'wants' so we thought a day out with the people she loves most and that love her would be wonderful.
We will be taking a disposable camera for her to use so that she'll have the photo's as memories.

We are also in the process of moving her into a bigger bedroom so it's all being decorated in the colours of her choice, pink, primrose yellow and lilac. She thinks that a new bedroom is her present, Bless her, she's soooo excited !

I've also asked family and friends to buy books or arts and crafts stuff as there is far too much plastic tat filling up landfills (bah humbug...)

How about a little tree, rose bush or shrub? She can watch it grow over the years, water it in the summer and look after it.
You might be able to find a rose with her name. Have a look at Peter Beale Roses. I managed to find my SIL a rose shrub with her new married name when she married my brother.

I am getting my dd (3 on the 10th April) some of my favourite books as a child - Treehorn is the main one, two studio Gibli DVDs (Kiki's Flying Delivery Service and Laputa's Castle in the Sky) and a little fairy/angel dress with wings attached.

I was planning on taking her out during the day and definitely think the disposable camera idea is great!

When my DS was 4 all he wanted was that Frog type thing ( word escapes me) is it Kandoo .

Anyway all he wanted was, a bottle of soap.

Make the most of it, it won't last.

I agree a memorable trip out to somewhere is always good and they remember that for much longer long after they have discarded the new toy that is only popular for the short time it is new. Not sure where you are but there is a Fairyland Trust in Norfolk that does activity days and parties for little ones if she likes that sort of thing as most small girls do....think a link from the Woodland Trust will take you there or there are "places where fairies gather " listed around UK too!
