Could I use papier mache to make a pinata before Sunday?

D'you think it would be possible for me to make my own pinata in time for DS's party on Sunday afternoon if I start now? It is a football party as MrsGV knows so I thought I could do one round a balloon then cover it with crepe paper hexagons to look like a football. How many layers would I need? How long between layers. I have never done papier mache before.

Yeah, you've plenty of time.

They're surprisingly tough, pinatas are. I'd say make a smaller, second one as you go along, so when you think you're finished, you can test the small one and see

You'll need about 3 layers.

However, a more ingenious and much easier way, is to get the middle sheet of a newspaper. Close it and glue up the sides except for the top. (you can make glue out of flour and water -dries as hard as rock!)

Scrunch up some tissue paper and stick it all over the paper.

Cut out two circles and a smile from some tinfoil. Draw pupils on the circles and stick them on for eyes.

Then stick long strips of alternating tinfoil and tissue paper to the bottom of the pinata. Finally stuff with paper and sweets and leave overnight to dry. Then thread some string through the top via some holes or use a bungee cord with hooks (anything really.) Finished product can be either a monster or a jelly-fish. (or an octopus etc)

I did one for my DS 4th birthday in January. It was hilarious!

Thanks. Great link. So how do I make a smaller one? Not blow the balloon up so far? Also what do you use for a stick? How long does it take for each layer to dry?

Use a cardboard tube or the little gits will destroy everything in their wake!!!

If you type in 'how to make a pinata' on google, you'll get squillions of sites!
