Are science parties worth the high cost?

I'm thinking of doing a science party for my son's sixth birthday as he loves doing experiments. I've contacted a few companies and the prices seem to be between £200-250 for an hour. Whilst I'm not quite as tight as DH (who said he didn't expect to pay more than for a facepainter) it seems very expensive. If you've done one, was it worth it? There isn't the option to pay on a per child basis. I was thinking of inviting about 8 children.

On the other hand although the price is high I suppose it could easily cost nearly that much doing a large party at soft play or trampolining.

I know I could set up some experiments myself, or for that matter just have some of DS's friends over for tea, cake and a couple of party games, but get very anxious at the thought of supervising and entertaining multiple children.

Not sure how many people ever venture onto this board, but should anyone ever be researching this, I highly recommend doing a science party. We used Science Boffins and the presenter was absolutely brilliant.

Thanks for posting about Science Boffins. I am trying to organise one for my 7 year old and finding it difficult to choose between Mad Science, Sublime science and Science Boffins.
Can you tell me a bit more about how your party worked out please? How many kids did you have, and was it all worthwhile! Bit nervous that it seems to be hit and miss depending on who the presenter is on the day.

Great to here the party was a success. I'm currently trying to choose who to choose for a 6 yrs old party coming up. Find it very confusing which of the there to book. Any advice would be much appreciated!

We recently went to a 'sublime science' party was good and 6 year old enjoyed it. Have also been to a mini professors party that was also excellent

We had a Mad Science party, with about half the class. It was summertime so they set up in a gazebo in the garden, and all trotted over to the field opposite to launch a rocket. It was great and we were very happy with it. They even added in some dry ice experiments that I hadn't paid for, because they had some left over from a previous party.

I did this for a 6 yr old. It was expensive but a really good party, all the kids enjoyed themselves.

It does seem like it's a great party idea.

We had the basic package, with the rocket extra on top, I think that was it..

I looked into this last summer as was considering one for my DD. The company had 3 or 4 different packages. The basic was a 1hr party for nearly £300. I was only planning a small party at home and wasnt prepared to spend that much so I didnt go ahead.
