Hi

My dd1 started school in august and will be 6 next month. I dont want to do the big party with all the class mates but dont know if she is too old for 6 or so friends to come to the house and do something. Has anyone done anything like this. Can anyone help?? Thank you

How about a craft party? Decorate a biscuit/bun, decorate a picture frame say (really cheap in Ikea - buy funky foam/feathers etc to decorate) take digitalpic of child at party to put in frame as going home present, paint a mug - buy cheap white mugs from Ikea or similar, and pottery /glass paint.
Is a grown up type of party suited to a smaller number

Hmm didnt think of that. dd is very crafty. The only thought I had was to get 6 or so of them round, give them sonthing to eat, paint their nails etc then let them have a mad dancing half hour. dont know if they are too old for this though. Really am stuck dont want to just let it go cause it seems to be the done thing in school to have a big party.

Well, if you don't want to do a big party don't. Am sure that other mothers will thank you for bucking the trend. I've done big parties for mine at 4,5,6, then just started on the few friends to the cinema type at 7. Doing nails sounds like fun, maybe you could get some beads and make jewellery too?

Thats a good idea. We have a local poundland here who Im sure will have some good necklace making stuff etc. Thats a good idea. Might stick with that. One of her bestfriends is a boy though so will have to explain to mum (who is my best friend) that he cant come. Bit sissy for boys me thinks. Thanks for the advice.

Maybe explain tothe boy what the party will be like and give him the choice? He could always make a necklace for his mum (or come for tea at another time?) Hope you have a good time

the best party i went to as a kid was when o was six.

we were all given a plain white t-shirt and a packet of fabric pens to design our own t-shirt. then the mum ironed them all to set the ink while we had birthday tea, and then we got to wear our creations home.

we all thought it was wonderful.

What about a slimber party? It would mean excluding the boys but the girls and your daughter would love it. All you need is lots of junk food, nail polish, and lots of pillows.
