I will be forty in February 2017- so middle of winter. I have 2 young dcs who by then will be 1 and 5

Could you give me some ideas of how to celebrate? I'm thinking of house party - in day so friends with kids can come. And I can chuck people out early evening. But what could I do to make party interesting?

Any other ideas too?

Thanks in advance.

Maybe have a theme? Eg a letter party (everyone comes as something that starts with the first letter of your name), a mad hatter's tea party or 1976? If you're not a fan of dressing up, the theme could just be for decorations and food ideas.

If thes going to be lots of kids it is also worth thinking about what you can do to keep them entertained - maybe have a film for them to watch or give them their own room with toys etc in. Possibly even worth thinking of hiring a covered bouncy castle for them?
